Associate Scientist / Sr Research Associate- Cambridge, MA

The Ideal candidate for this position will have experience related to preparative and analytical separations of nucleic acids for the characterization and production. On top of this, experience with mRNA synthesis and/or other enzymatic reaction systems. This candidate will be successful if they are motivated by developing highly active therapeutic molecules for further characterization, in addition to supporting ongoing research activities in the autoimmune tolerance team. Working in larger groups, this candidate will push programs and projects forward from discovery stages to preclinical to IND enabling studies. Being skilled in verbal and written communication, as well as having a curiosity for science is key.

Job Description

This company is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist / Senior Research Associate for their tolerance technology platform team. This team is responsible for creating and sending out top of the line immune modulatory therapies. This is an amazing opportunity to work with an early discovery project to develop and characterize a novel immunomodulatory platform. Working alongside a dedicated team, this ideal candidate will help create and analyze mRNA constructs while working on improving processes. This job offers opportunities to innovate including removing immunogenic impurities to produce highly immune-silent mRNA constructs, optimize processes for scale and robustness, and build a pipeline to regularly deliver these constructs internally. Working closely with the departments of nanoparticle technology, in vivo pharmacology, protein sciences, antigen discovery and validation, computational sciences and CMC development to push forward this new platform within preclinical and clinical development.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with a scientific supervisor to outline and enhance the production, biochemical analysis, and purification of mRNA constructs.
  • Characterizing purified constructs in vitro and in vivo working together with preclinical biology and disease area teams.
  • Improve and organize processes for in vitro production and purification of mRNA for discovery and therapeutic applications.
  • Establish supply of in vivo grade mRNA to the tolerance team and throughout the company. Optimize production methods for throughput and efficiency as needed.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Chemistry, Chemical/Bioengineering, or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of biotech/pharma experience post grad.
  • Preparative and analytical separations experience including HPLC, CE, and FPLC.
  • Experience scaling and optimizing enzymatic reactions and purifications.
  • LC-MS, MALDI and/or ESI MS experience is a plus.
