Job Description

Chief Operating Officer

KIPP MA’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) is an experienced manager and leader accountable for the region’s developing strategy and business plan, for the delivery of high performing operational services and capacity building required to support KIPP MA’s current scale and future expansion, and for the financial sustainability and public compliance of the organization. The COO oversees the growth strategy for KIPP MA and leads work to define and deliver on services the regional office provides to KIPP MA schools. The COO will define school-based operational excellence for KIPP MA and will manage others to ensure the schools achieve such excellence. The COO serves as a thought partner to the Executive Director, sits on the KIPP MA Regional Leadership Team, manages a team of operations professionals, and works closely with board, regional, and school leaders to ensure KIPP MA’s successful impact, sustainability, and growth.

Specific Responsibilities:

Operations

  1. Envision and define operations excellence for KIPP MA with an anit-racist lens and develop equitable dashboards to manage regional office and school-based operations staff members to results.

  2. Partner with regional leadership members to develop, drive, and monitor progress on key diversity, equity, and inclusivity initiatives around operations at all five KIPP MA schools

  3. Hire, manage, train, and develop regional operations staff and school operations staff to deliver excellent operations services and supports.

  4. Manage overall quality of operations performance and customer service, analyzing service performance and customer satisfaction data to set and achieve continuous improvement goals.

Compliance & Grants

  1. Ensure compliance systems, staffing, and tools in place for annual and charter cycles such that KIPP MA complies with all federal, state, and local legal and regulatory requirements to ensure no damage to student and staff welfare, financials, ability to operate and grow, or reputation.

  2. Oversee staff managing KIPP MA’s federal and state grants to ensure grants are secured, allocated, budgeted, tracked, and in compliance.

  3. Identify new government grant opportunities

Facilities & Real Estate

  1. Manage KIPP MA’s real estate portfolio, ensuring facility solutions and plans are in place to achieve growth while integrating mission, finance, development, and facility perspectives.

Legal & Risk Management

  1. Lead region-wide management of legal affairs, insurance, and other risk management strategies.

Technology

  1. Oversee staff and strategies for planning, implementation, and support of all technology required for KIPP MA to achieve its educational and business goals.

Transportation & Food Services

  1. Ensure school-based staffing, systems, and vendors are in place for transportation and food programs with timely, reliable, safe, on-budget, and fully compliant delivery of services.

Data

  1. Define analytical excellence for KIPP MA and develop dashboards to manage the distribution of school based and regional academic data.

  1. Hire, manage, train, and develop regional data staff to deliver excellent data services and supports.

  2. Manage overall quality of data performance and customer service, analyzing service performance and customer satisfaction data to set and achieve continuous improvement goals.

  • Has experience leading, planning, and managing in an entrepreneurial, client-oriented setting;

  • Possesses excellent management, communication, public relations, customer service, and interpersonal skills; and

  • Has a strong work ethic and commits to doing whatever it takes for students to excel.
