Job Description

The Executive Director, Access Strategy & Payer Marketing will lead the overall development and implementation of brand value proposition, access strategy and tactics for payer audiences, aligning operations to ensure patients have affordable access to Aurinia therapeutics. This role will develop payer access strategies, value messaging and payer communication across payer channels and working closely with cross-functional marketing and other stakeholders. This role will also formulate, develop, and execute patient affordability support programs such as co-pay support. The Executive Director is responsible for demonstrating ongoing strategic leadership across the organization to profile the payer landscape, develop and execute payer research, develop strategies to achieve overall access goals of Aurinia therapeutics and create payer messaging that enhances and evolves the value of our therapies across U.S. payers (public and private) in all segments (Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare, and Federal Programs including VA/DoD) . The Executive Director is accountable for the development of marketing strategies and tactics to achieve optimal, profitable access while maintaining cross-functional alignment with brand, global, HEOR, medical, government affairs, policy and field-based teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and evolution of payer strategies in support of optimal access for the launch of voclosporin in the US.
  • Maintain thorough understanding of market dynamics and access complexities for the existing portfolio and emerging pipeline; apply broad industry knowledge and commercial awareness to drive optimal performance
  • Develop strategies and design integrated programs and messages that convey clear value proposition to managed care organizations and other key constituents to support optimal patient access and achieve strategic and financial goals
  • Leverage payer and other third-party stakeholder insights to drive key access strategic choices
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to conduct highly innovative research/analytics to define brand payer strategies
  • Identify gaps in current market access understanding and develop plans to gain direct payer insights through primary research, advisory boards, etc., and work with vendors to implement projects in a timely, impactful manner
  • Maintain oversight over payer issues, opportunities and recommendations to leadership stakeholders
  • Partner closely with Patient Services and our Corporate Account Directors to lead execution of strategies and tactics to effectively engage payers
  • Liaise with Medical Affairs and Regional Medical Liaisons to guide evidence generation plans and ensure health economic activities meet the needs of payers while demonstrating value of our therapy
  • Develop payer tools, resources and programs for the managed markets field teams to achieve short-term and long-term business objectives
  • Identify and address product barriers to payer access and performance by applying advanced understanding of, and experience with, pricing strategies and payer analytics
  • Based on business demands, lead key projects and initiatives that require significant cross functional responsibilities and guide the resolution of complex business problems through innovation and proactive stakeholder engagement
  • Coordinate efforts between internal stakeholders and field-based teams and propose key success metrics and incentives
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • B.A. or B.S. Degree required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred
  • 12-15+ years of related experience in the pharmaceutical, medical device, or biotech industry, preferably in market access and/or marketing
  • 8+ years of related experience in payer/channel/trade pricing and patient services and/or account management and/or managed markets marketing preferred
  • Experience in payer/brand marketing for specialty and rare disease therapies
  • Experience in developing and executing patient affordability programs
  • Recent launch experience and entry into new therapeutic areas strongly preferred
  • In-depth understanding of the complex and evolving US reimbursement landscape and access challenges, including reimbursement trends, private and government payer perspectives and healthcare policy
  • Must be an outstanding commercial leader with a proven track record for going above and beyond established measurements for goals and objectives
  • Proven record of success in working with cross-functional teams; demonstrated ability to successfully influence multiple levels of an organization, both internally and externally
  • Comfort presenting complex and evolving access challenges to all internal customers, including senior management, brand partners, and appropriate field teams
  • Strong attention to detail combined with a keen ability to recognize issues in the context of higher-level policies and regulations
  • Strong leadership, planning and organization, analytics, decision-making and problem-solving skills; focus on delivery of results
  • Strong interpersonal and peer leadership skills to influence without authority; ability to work cross-functionally in a highly dynamic environment with a high sense of urgency
  • Self-starter who functions well both independently and within a team
  • Proven record of successful vendor management, specifically as lead for agency partners
  • Experience successfully managing budgets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; excellent presentation and power point skills
  • Professional, proactive demeanor
