We are currently seeking a Biochemist (Proteomics/Mass Spectrometry) with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.This is a full-time, long-term contract position which offers:Competitive salary with comprehensive benefits package

TASKS. The contractor shall:Perform research activities and other tasks in a laboratory environment.

Prepare protein samples including in-gel, in-solution, on-beads digestion and 2D separation.

Perform data acquisition on a Thermo Fusion Lumos instrument and an Agilent 6230 LC-TOF instrument Analyze data using Proteome Discoverer, Mascot, and MaxQuant software.

Perform protein samples preparation for LC-MS/MS analysis.

Present and communicate results with Project Team and staff.

Extract proteins from cells and tissues.

Maintain and update accurate records of daily experiments and results including research documentation.

Conduct routine and non-routine sample preparation/extraction methods for a variety of biological matrices including but not limited to plasma, urine, skeletal muscle and brain tissue.

Perform routine laboratory maintenance; ensure research supplies are kept stocked.

Maintain and update laboratory notebooks and equipment.

Evaluate new technologies and instruments resulting in proposals for new screening strategies and novel assay formats.

Write technical reports and prepare manuscripts for publication.

Work with staff in the design, implementation, interpretation, and reporting of bioanalytical method development and sample analysis.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:Master’s degree in Biochemistry or related field.

Hands on experience with Mass Spectrometry-based proteomic analysis.

Demonstrated proficiency with the following techniques:

LC-MS/MS

LC-TOF

HPLC-Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization (MALDI)

Proficiency with the following software:

MaxQuant

Proteome Discoverer

Mascot

Experience with the following is highly desired:

Thermo Fusion Lumos instruments

Agilent LC-TOF instrument

Extraction of proteins from cell and tissue samples.

Preparing/digesting protein samples using a variety of techniques

Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and databases and data management tools.
