This individual will plan, market, sell, and deliver world-class consulting solutions in the Energy sector with a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach that integrates strategic, financial, and expertise-based advisory services to private and investor-owned utility companies, commercial and industrial customers, municipalities, and government agencies. The Rates & Regulatory Practice provides highly desired services in these market segments including: regulatory strategy and reform development, rate case management and support, costing and ratemaking, innovative pricing solutions, infrastructure-based business case and cost/benefit analysis and expert testimony and litigation support across all sectors of the electric, natural gas, and oil/liquid products pipeline markets and other energy market participants (e.g., energy law firms, energy marketers, financial institutions, commercial and industrial customers, and energy developers). The candidate will f requently lead communications within the internal engagement team and with the clients. Managers in this practice g enerally work on multiple concurrent projects at a given time. Works with limited supervision and/or may lead small to medium efforts or project teams.Key ResponsibilitiesThe ideal candidate must understand the technological, market and commercial changes driving the current energy industry transformation requiring evolution in the regulatory construct for effective implementation. It is expected that this broad market understanding will enable the candidate to periodically interact with members of Black & Veatch Management Consulting’s asset management, planning, distribution modernization and customer experience and technology practices to help drive the development, selling and delivery of multi-functional business solutions. Our ideal candidate will develop sales capability to contribute to the growth of the Rates & Regulatory Practice by creatively engaging clients and delivering solutions to satisfy their needs, and lead and manage others in the Practice to focus on similar activities. The candidate will help develop long-term project and business advisory relationships with a wide range of investor-owned utilities, public power and public gas entities, interstate natural gas pipeline companies and other energy market participants (e.g., energy law firms, energy marketers, financial institutions, commercial and industrial customers, and energy developers). This individual will be responsible for supporting the delivery of client solutions in the area of electric and natural gas ratemaking and related regulatory matters, with a focus on regulatory reform approaches, innovative ratemaking solutions, Performance-Based Regulation (PBR) and dynamic pricing for electric and natural gas utilities. In addition, the individual must be capable of supporting all aspects of assigned engagements including conducting quality assurance reviews on their own and others' work.Project Management Capability:Manages client expectations within defined scope of engagement

Recommends appropriate resources based on the phases of an assignment

Delegates work to assigned team members

Uses defined processes and practices in assessing engagement risks

Manages engagement issues in less complex projects or escalates issues in more complex projects

Location: US Based Virtual/Remote with ability to travel up to 25%Management ResponsibilitiesIndividual ContributorPreferred QualificationsAdvanced Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics or other relevant field

Experience in the following:

Electric or natural gas system planning

Load forecasting and load research

Analysis of regulatory implications technologies such as Distributed Energy Resources (DER), cogeneration, battery storage, Demand Response or other similar technologies

Experience preparing Return on Equity and Cost of Capital estimates

Extensive knowledge of regulated utility accounting under US General Accepted Accounting Principles or International Financial Reporting Standards

Experience with alternative ratemaking mechanisms

Demonstrated project management experience

Advanced technical or industry knowledge.

Leadership skills

Human relations skills including collaboration and team functions

Exhibits high ethical standards and maintains a reputation of integrity

Ability to interface with multiple projects, offices and cultures

Ability to meet deadlines and be flexible to multiple demands of project teams and shifting priorities

Skilled at interfacing with personnel at all levels from staff to executive management

Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in a related field.

7 years of relevant experience that includes 2 years of experience managing regulatory engagements plus 5 years of experience in the following

Direct involvement in utility rate proceedings and regulatory policy,

Served as an expert witness or prepared testimony for electric or natural gas ratemaking and regulatory matters before state and federal regulatory bodies,

Hands-on experience with the design and implementation of tariffs for electric or natural gas utilities;

A knowledge of the accounting and financial concepts associated with the development of a regulated utility revenue requirement; and,

Demonstrated technical expertise in the costing and pricing of utility services showing the ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex ratemaking and regulatory problems within the client's business environment

Advanced PC literacy, with the ability to operate multiple software packages (documents, spreadsheets, presentations)

Based in the US with ability to travel up to 25%
