Job Description

Student Success CoachThe Student Success Coach reports to the program's Candidate Engagement Manager (full-time LaunchCode staff member) and works to assess and address the needs of a cohort of LaunchCode students. They analyze data from multiple sources at different points during the class to identify students who may be facing internal or external barriers in completing the course, and they reach out proactively to introduce themselves and their role. When contact with a student has been made, the Success Coach can employ a combination of strategies, from engaged listening to motivational interviewing and warm referrals, to connect the student with resources and follow up with them on their goals.

Success Coach Responsibilities
  • Contact students who are facing barriers in the class weekly via Slack, email, and Zoom, employ specific coaching strategies and follow up
  • Use a student contact tracker to record notes within 3 days of the meeting
  • Identify student concerns by administering and analyzing a Resources Assessment and Psychological Safety Survey
  • Meet once-weekly with the course Candidate Engagement Manager to touch base on student progress and needs
  • Attend one weeknight class per week to observe
  • Meet each week with other Success Coaches to focus on coaching strategies and regional resources
  • Update the existing LaunchCode Success Coach Guidebook with additional trainings and resources
  • Potential to develop and implement a project that aligns with LaunchCode's mission as well as the Success Coach's field of study and professional goals

Qualifications

Qualifications
  • Current or recent Social Work (BSW, MSW, or MSEd) student
  • A strong desire to work with driven individuals and help them succeed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An outcome-oriented work ethic
  • The ability to be a self-reflective thinker when it comes to evaluating your own processes
You're perfect for this role if you

  • Are comfortable communicating with learners, individually and in groups, in both verbal and written settings
  • Have experience with Google Suite tools
  • Can translate survey data into actionable steps
  • Integrating their work into a team environment to support learners
  • Understand and can navigate the network of social, health, and legal resources available within the Greater Kansas City area
  • Have designed and implemented skill-building/goal-setting plans
  • Can work with people from a variety of backgrounds, skill sets, and demographics

Position TypePart-Time ' Contract, 10 to 15 hours per week ($15/hr) from late May - November.

Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 - 9 pm CT. Class starts June 1st and is estimated to run through November 23rd. The Success Coach may be required to attend one training session with course staff before class start. Class is planned to currently meet virtually as we continue to follow guidelines set by public health officials related to COVID-19.
