Data Engineer II

Principal is looking for Data Engineers to join our US Insurance Solution Technology organization. In this role, you will be building an operational data store platform that enables us to drive better experiences for our customers. As an engineer in this space, you’ll bring your knowledge of creating, hosting, and monitoring data solutions to build scalable, repeatable patterns. You’ll work closely with our Customer Service product teams and Core Policy Recordkeeping teams. Here are a few things you’ll do:+ + Understand business context and transfer that knowledge to build solutions around data repositories while keeping an enterprise and engineering mindsetBuild efficient, repeatable data pipelines both to both serve and monitor models

Engage with business partners as a technology consultant

Understand the trade-offs between technical, analytical and product needs and lead to solutions that take all of the needs into account. Develop strategies for data acquisition and influence others within the business area through explanation of policies, patterns and practices. Facilitate strategic discussions and execute tactical plans

Continue maintenance and support of legacy platforms

Provide technical advice and weigh in on technical decisions that impact other teams or the company at large. Research, influence and propose new technologies.

Make others better through code review, thorough documentation, technical guidance, mentoring or serving as technical lead for a product

Bachelor's degree plus 2+ years related work experience or a Master's degree in related field

Knowledge of financial services products and processes desirable

Experience with:

Database management systems

Variety of data modeling techniques and data structures

Building/operating systems for data extraction, ingestion and processing of large data sets

Building data products incrementally and integrating and managing datasets from multiple sources

Operational and enterprise data, data lakes, or reporting data marts

May be required to provide on-call support

Additional preferred technical experience: Python, SQL, Github code repository experience

Moving and transforming large amounts of data using Informatica ETL

Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines

Experience with Mainframe systems like JCL and COBOL would be a plus but not required.

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance.
