HTS Classifier
Description This position will be responsible for performing global classifications in the Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) and Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN's). The HTS classifier will function as a global HS and ECCN classification subject matter expert interfacing with global stakeholders. The role will be responsible for gathering data, determining classifications using WCO Explanatory rules, GRI, Customs and Court Rulings of different countries etc. You will retain records as per CBP, WCO and the clients regulations. This role will classify all global commodities with a high volume of R&D import and export commodities. Primary Responsibilities include:- Providing global tariff and export control classifications for international shipments.
- The HTS classifier must be skilled in utilizing global tariff schedules.
- Will provide country specific tariff classifications based on the country of import generally aligned to the first 6 digits globally
- Populate global classification databases and ensure that international trade IT systems are continuously updated in order to provide the most current information to users.
- Ensure all systems of record are updated upon global tariff schedule change notifications.
- Detailed knowledge of global HS and ECCN classification processes, global best practices, and trade automation solutions.
- Expertise in classifying chemicals a must.
- Experience agriculture industry a plus.
- Strong knowledge/capability in documenting GRI's.
- Strong experience working with chapters 12, 14, 29, 38, 39, 49, 84 and 85.
- Ability to work independently on time sensitive requests.
- Ability to plan and execute programs and benchmark best practices to develop processes that support continuous improvement.
- Confidence to insist upon use of corporate processes to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Knowledge of the Commerce Control List (CCL) and ability to accurately assign ECCN s
- Develop and retain audit trails to support the classification assigned and update classification database system.
- Source Customs rulings to support classification determinations.
- Must be highly organized and have the ability to follow current internal classification procedures.
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry or international trade management preferred.
- Customs broker license preferred.
- Expert knowledge of HTS classification determination.

- Experience in global classifications required.
- Minimum five years of experience working in HTS and ECCN classification role.
- Good negotiation, influence and conflict resolution skills.
- Project management skills.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Fluent, speech and writing, in English; additional competencies in other languages a plus.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, articulate a problem and identify the root cause
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
