Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal level VDI Administrator / VMWare / vSphere Nutanix Systems Administrator to join its dynamic team of technical professionals in Redondo Beach, CA (secondary location is Rolling Meadows, IL).

This is an opportunity for a virtual desktop infrastructure administrator, supporting VMware View / vSphere on Nutanix hosts, in order to maintain VDI in a DoD classified data center. And we are seeking a virtualization professional to be responsible for performing operations and maintenance tasks within the enterprise environment.

Roles and responsibilities will include:
  • Operate and maintain the Nutanix hosts and VMware software to provide the internal programs and our suppliers with virtualized desktop services
  • Troubleshoot and resolve major and minor issues with the virtualized infrastructure including opening and managing support tickets with vendors (Nutanix, EMC, VMware) as needed
  • Perform as the technical lead on a Desktop virtualization team that operates a multi-tenant VDI environment on classified networks
  • Act as the senior escalation point on the team
  • Mentor and train junior/mid-level team members on troubleshooting, maintenance, and administration of the Enterprise VDI environment
  • Utilize available tools to determine performance baselines, identify deviations from the baseline, and make recommendations to improve performance
  • Develop and document SOPs and KB articles for the operations team and help desk
  • Continuously evaluate the system for improvement opportunities and make recommendation for enhancement
  • Have an in-depth understanding of how the VDI system interacts with and is dependent on other core IT infrastructure and systems
  • Maintain the security compliance and configuration management of the VDI system
  • Communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, with internal and external customers, in written and oral format
  • Recommend and implement system enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system including installing, upgrading/patching, monitoring, problem resolution, and configuration management
  • Provide backup and recovery services; manage file systems and disk space; manage virus protection on a routine basis
  • Test new releases of products to ensure compatibility and minimize user impact
  • Make recommendations to purchase hardware, software, and system components
  • Interact, meet, discuss, and troubleshoot issues with vendors; evaluate vendor products, services, and suggestions
  • Adhere to strict Information Systems security guidelines in all cases
  • Maintain security audit and logging information on all classified networked and standalone computers as directed by the Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM)
  • Prepare security documentation for input to Computer Security
  • Report project status as required for all recurring and non-recurring efforts
  • Work under minimal direction and independently determine and develop approach to solutions.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Master's degree with 3 years of IT experience is required: OR a Bachelor's degree with 5 years of IT experience; OR an Associate degree with 7 years of IT experience; OR High School Diploma or GED with 9 years of IT experience
  • Must have a current DoD 8570 IAT level 2 baseline certification (examples include: Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, GSEC, GICSP, CND, SSCP); OR must have the ability to obtain the certification within 6 months of start date
  • Experience managing and maintaining VMware Horizon View
  • An in-depth knowledge of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) technologies
  • Experience in Core VMware technology including VMware vSphere, vCenter, Application Virtualization, and Horizon View
  • Experience with and knowledge of Windows Server and Desktop Environments (Windows 10, Windows Server 2012R2, 2016 and 2019)
  • Must have an understanding of the desktop image build process and recompose efforts
  • Experience with VDI profile management solutions, specifically Profile Unity
  • Experience with hyper-converged virtualizations platforms, specifically Nutanix
  • Experience with Application Virtualization in a VDI environment
  • Experience managing printers in a VMware VDI environment
  • Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to work after hours and weekends as needed
  • Candidates must have a current DOD Secret level security clearance in order to be considered
Preferred Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in a STEM related discipline, a Security+ CE, and 5 years of experience administrating Microsoft Exchange Server, and Skype for Business, in both classified and unclassified environments
  • Experience operating under and managing systems within NISPOM Chapter 8, DCID 6/3-ICD 503, RMF, STIG, JAFAN, or JSIG information system environments.
  • Strong background planning, implementing, sustaining, and administering Exchange 2016 and Skype for business
  • Experience with Scripting/Automation through Exchange PowerShell or other scripting languages
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Hands-on experience in a lead role migrating from hybrid or on-prem Exchange to Exchange online or administering Exchange in a hybrid and cloud environment
  • Experience with disaster recovery and high availability
  • Certifications in Core VMware technology including VMware vSphere, vCenter, Application Virtualization, and Horizon View
  • Currently valid Security+ CE, CASP, CISSP, or similar security certification
  • Windows domain architecture experience
  • Understanding of basic networking, including subnets, routing, and VLANs; Cisco experience and/or certification
  • Windows AD, LDAP, VMWare, and knowledge of SAN storage systems
  • Knowledge of environmental monitoring tools (HBSS/Solar Winds/Splunk)
  • Experience with Certification & Accreditation process
  • DoD 8570 Certification in a primary OS (Windows, Linux, Cisco)
  • Currently active Top Secret/SCI clearance is desirable

Salary Range: $88,000 USD - $138,400 USD Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
