We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Appointment in Soft Condensed Matter research with Materials Science Division's (MSD) at Argonne National Laboratory. The position is related to the research project aimed at the discovery of new bio-inspired out-of-equilibrium colloidal materials and understanding fundamental principles guiding collective behavior and self-assembly in active colloids(https://www.anl.gov/msd/dynamics-of-active-selfassembled-materials). The candidate will conduct research at the forefront of experimental soft condensed matter physics. The primary focus will be on dynamic self-assembly and collective phenomena in active (driven or self-propelling) colloidal systems in the bulk, microfluidic films and LC media.Position RequirementsThe ideal candidate will have a PhD in Physics or related field within the last three years

Experimental experience with colloidal and LC materials

Strong experimental/theoretical background in soft matter

Experience with optical microscopy

Skills in image processing (PIV, particle tracking, 3D visualization)

Knowledge of experimental techniques for characterizing granular and colloidal materials in equilibrium and non-equilibrium conditions

Basic programing skills (MATLAB, LabView, Python etc.)

Good written and oral communication skills.

This position will involve a considerable amount of experimental laboratory work with a variety of video-microscopy / electron microscopy techniques. The work will also include a variety of physical measurements and techniques such as PIV, electro transport measurements, lithography, 3D printing at microscale and related techniques. You are expected to think and work independently and conduct research in a highly interdisciplinary environment of physicists, chemists and materials scientists. For additional questions, please contact Dr. Alexey Snezhko (snezhko@anl.gov).Job FamilyPostdoctoral FamilyJob ProfilePostdoctoral AppointeeWorker TypeLong-Term (Fixed Term)Time TypeFull timeAs an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer, and in accordance with our core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity and teamwork, Argonne National Laboratory is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace that fosters collaborative scientific discovery and innovation.
