Click for a complete list of Employee BenefitsUIC is looking for an experienced Assistant Director to join our Enterprise Applications & Services Technology Solutions team.The Assistant Director helps lead the enterprise applications and services team, ensuring the staff have adequate resources and direction to accomplish their goals. The assistant director is responsible for, but not limited to the following services within Technology Solutions: Printing, Endpoint Management (via Intune and MECM), Cloud Storage, Meetings and Conferencing, Digital Signage, the Virtual Computer Lab and imaging and maintaining the operating system and applications within the physical computer labs.The Assistant Director will help investigate and implement new technologies that align with UIC's strategic direction. This position oversees and manages support for major systems, users-facing services and other applications used throughout the university and supported by UIC's Technology Solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide tier 2/3 client support for the endpoint management service (MECM/Intune) Provide client support by answering questions both verbally and in written form. Work with departments to determine, document, and fulfill business needs. Manage service and problem tickets within established SLAs.
  • Develops and updates system administration procedures and works closely with other IT resources including developers, storage administrators, server administrators, network administrators, and first level support (Help Desk).
  • Maintain and improve infrastructure for endpoint management service. Applying enhancements and/or fixes as necessary to maintain system performance and meet security standards.
  • Establish and maintain effective monitoring, reporting, and management of the endpoint management environment on a day-to-day basis.
  • Partner with university stakeholders to assess, prioritize, and manage stakeholder needs regarding university-wide systems and administrative applications to ensure system investments meet business requirements.
  • Develop and execute administrative technology strategic and tactical plans, in consultation with senior leadership, IT leadership, and administrative and academic representatives.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations to improve and expand applications, system integration, and application performance. Identify potential solutions and vendors, create requests for proposals, coordinate evaluation of proposals, and facilitate decisions.
  • Create relationships with stakeholders on latest trends in student centric applications and services.
  • Share knowledge with the university IT community through participation in public events and presentations as an advocate for aligned technology positions
  • Serve as an effective project and resource manager that can articulate project demands and recommend priorities to functional users, groups, and committees.
  • Ensures team members stay current with new technologies, trends, and best practices in the IT industry, to advise on any new or emerging technologies that fits within the overall Technology strategy.
  • Works with Enterprise Applications team and data owners to enhance data integrity and improve reporting capabilities.
  • Manage day-to-day office operations. Interview, hire, orient, lead, mentor and evaluate staff to meet departmental and organizational needs.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or closely related field of study.
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional IT experience which includes 2 years’ experience at a supervisory or management capacity
  • Demonstrated experience within

    System Administration & Operations which includes experience in configuration, installation, maintenance, backup / recovery and upgrading multi-user computer systems hardware and software as well as establishing/managing user accounts.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in configuration, installation, maintenance, backup / recovery and upgrading multi-user computer systems hardware and software as well as establishing/managing user accounts.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in management or director capacity.
  • Technical support experience with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (formerly SCCM) and Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune).
  • Experience configuring and/or maintaining an MECM or Intune infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of production Windows Server administration.
  • Exposure to working within Azure and tasks like deploying Virtual Machines or a Windows Virtual Desktop environment.
  • Organizational skills, ability to work with staff, faculty, and administration at all skill and management levels.
  • Excellent professional communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated project management experience and excellent analytical and skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage all aspects of an information system implementation and integration of various information system.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, understand, and effectively communicate business requirements and technical design.
