Position: Intellectual Property SpecialistLocation: Chicago, IL 60607/Seattle WA 98104/San Francisco CA 94103/St. Louis MO 63141Duration: 12 monthsOverview:We're looking for an Intellectual Property (IP) Specialist using the Research and Development Specialist template. This IP Specialist is a member of the Enabling program in Climate Science organization and works closely with the IP Scientist and the IP Law and technical/business teams to drive IP alignment on pipeline projects, identify patentable opportunities, capture invention disclosures, minimize risks to the Freedom to Operate, and support patent preparation and prosecution. As an IP Specialist, you should be familiar with patents and tools for analyzing patents. You will serve as a liaison between the IP team and scientists to analyze invention disclosures to secure protection for the company's IP. You will deal with diverse and often time sensitive issues, where analysis may require in-depth evaluation of various factors and aligning activities with the cross-functional teams.Responsibilities:•Serve as a liaison between the IP and project teams to support IP compliance for pipeline project advancements.•Identify patentable opportunities with the project teams.•Work with scientists to prepare invention disclosures, assist in identifying core aspects of inventions.•Drive alignment with the project teams and internal and external IP counsels to support the drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications.•Assist with patent portfolio analysis to enable portfolio optimization with aligned decisions.•Perform IP assessments to minimize risks to the Freedom to Operate.•Facilitate training and support of IP processes, awareness, engagement and compliance.•Build cross-functional relationships to collaboratively partner with the business and effectively network within the IP and Scientific communities.Required Qualifications:•Master's degree with at least two years of relevant experience or Bachelor's degree with at least four years of relevant experience in a science or engineering field.•Experience with technology directed to digital solutions, including computer implement inventions, software solutions, artificial intelligence, neural networks, machine learning and similar.•Familiar with patents and tools for analyzing and searching for patents.•Ability to quickly master new technology fields, identify opportunities and explain both technical and patent nuances and implications in the field to key stakeholders.•Strong organizational and multitasking / time management skills.•Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability.Preferred Qualifications:•Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.•Experience in managing IP in the Agriculture industry, including Digital Ag, Biotechnology, Crop Protection, or Seed Treatments.
