A global leader in the design, engineering, manufacturing, and delivery of refractory products, systems, and services for high-tech industrial applications is seeking an Automation Engineer for their Champaign, IL location. The Automation Engineer will design and manage projects involving automation for flow control systems primarily for customers in the steel manufacturing industry.

The Automation Engineer will spend half their time in the office and half doing on-site work around the US and North America with occasional travel to Europe. Office time will include engineering projects, PLC and HMI programming, testing, documentation to complement the projects, etc. On-site at customer facilities work involves commissioning of systems, troubleshooting and debugging, and interfacing with the customer. Assisting on R&D projects and customer support activities are also part of the role.

Responsibilities:
  • PLC Programming (AB, Siemens, Emerson/GE, or Schneider/Modicon)
  • HMI Programming
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
  • Automation and Electrical Engineering project planning
  • Project Documentation
  • Equipment testing
  • On-site commissioning and Troubleshooting
  • Post-sale customer assistance
  • Assistance to sales team and R&D
  • Travel to customer sites in N. America - 40%

Experience required:
  • BS degree in Electrical or Control System Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Automation Engineering (Steel-making Industry preferred)
  • PLC and HMI programming (multiple brands)
  • Process control loop control tuning
  • Industrial network design
  • Start-up and Troubleshooting
  • Ability to work with customers
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • General knowledge of Electrical and Safety standards
  • C and C programming/ MS Word/Excel/Power Point/Visio/Project
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience
  • Ability to work in a team and contribute to a positive and respectful work environment
