Responsibilities

The ET Claims - Property Complex team is seeking a Data Analyst with a passion for data analytics who is equipped with exceptional data skills and is ready to support and enable the Property Insights program and Claim Decision Hub (CDH) product suite. Claim Insights and CDH are innovating within the Claims space by leveraging analytics-based solutions to provide enhanced claim and workforce prioritization. We are seeking highly motivated individuals with foundational data skills, high learning agility and a strong desire to create data solutions in a fast-paced, learning-rich environment.

This data analyst will be querying data from different data sources such as FDW, Hadoop, or AWS, and analyzing and modeling the data in order for us to ultimately deliver meaningful solutions. The analyst will also perform ad hoc queries and analysis so that we can understand new product opportunities and assess the impact of solutions once they are delivered to production.

Primary Tasks:
  • Work with datasets containing mixes of structured and unstructured data
  • Write ad-hoc scripts and queries
  • Resolve problems that result in a decreased time to market; improves quality, enhances flexibility, and embraces the solution provider mindset
  • Strong analytical skills - has ability to start from ambiguous problem statements, identify and access relevant data, make appropriate assumptions, perform insightful analysis and draw conclusions relevant to the business problem

Qualifications

  • Strong SQL knowledge and hands-on experience
  • Knowledge of analytical libraries such as Pandas or other tools
  • Experience with data visualization tools and techniques (Qlik, Python, Tableau, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Hadoop technologies such as HIVE and Impala
  • Desire to learn and/or practical experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform and data services such as Athena, Glue, and other services.
  • Understanding and hands on experience with Claims Data is a plus
  • Understanding of data and data sources (DB/2, PostGres).
  • Strong business and technical knowledge across multiple platforms/operating systems
  • Knowledge of product design, data design & movement, and testing to ensure quality outcomes
  • Defines, designs, and documents conceptual and logical data models
  • Translates functional and technical requirements into detailed design
  • Ensures work and/or the work of their teams are in compliance with enterprise policies and policies and standards within their domain of expertise and areas of responsibility
This position will have an 18-month incumbency period, beginning on the effective date of the position, which must be met before the employee can post for any other lateral State Farm position. Employees may be considered for leadership or Technology Engineer openings at any time, and a promotional position within the same job structure (i.e. Professional/Technical or Para-professional/Support) after 6 months from the effective date of the position. In these cases, the remaining incumbency would be waived. The incumbency period does not affect the at-will relationship between State Farm and the employee and does not create an employment contract, nor contractual rights.
