Maintenance and Cleaning Technician

Basic Functions:

Performs maintenance and custodial duties to include overall building and grounds maintenance and repairs.

Primary Responsibilities:

Cleans, sweeps and mops floors.

Washes windows, sills, woodwork, doors, desks, walls, and ceilings.

Cleans and sanitizes rest rooms, dusts and vacuums rooms, moves equipment and furniture. Assemblies furniture when directed.

Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment in order to prevent damage to floors, fixtures, equipment, and building components.

Picks up trash (indoor and outdoor), takes trash to the dumpster daily and keeps the appearance of both facilities presentable at all times.

Shovels snow, maintains outside sidewalks, and assists in keeping outside/inside premises in an orderly condition.

Assist with incoming work request and emergency repairs.

Provides general maintenance to plumbing, electrical, HVAC and sprinkler systems.

Assist in preventative maintenance to include changing filters, cleaning coils, cleaning drains, troubleshooting malfunctions, replacing thermostats, installing belts, and installing/repairing duct work and supply/return grills.

Performs minor carpentry work such as patching walls and doors, painting walls and trim, power washing buildings and other surfaces, replacing damaged ceiling and floor tiles, concrete work and repairing carpet.

Uses tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, screw drivers, sockets, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.

Return and/or ensure the return of all tools, material and equipment to appropriate storage area in a timely manner.

Ensure all tools, equipment and materials are maintained in a safe and clean manner.

Notifies supervisor concerning the need for major and minor repairs or maintenance to structures, operating systems, tools, or equipment to ensure proper and safe operations.

Notifies supervisor of any needed supplies and materials, stocks once materials arrive.

Keeps storage areas and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.

Setting up and taking down tables and chairs for classrooms, programs and events daily, weekly and monthly as needed.

Participates in 24-hour on call duty on a rotating schedule.

Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED required

One (1) year experiences in custodial, building maintenance or general labor.

Required Knowledge skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of cleaning, heating and ventilating equipment, irrigating systems, floor buffers and custodial equipment, and basic tools utilized in building maintenance; considerable knowledge of maintenance and repair work; thorough knowledge of proper safety techniques and procedures.

Skill in the operation of a variety of hand tools and equipment.

Ability to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions, make routine decisions independently, sustain long periods of light to moderately heavy physical activity, and work harmoniously with others.
