OverviewEmory Specialty Pharmacy is seeking a highly motivated and independent technician who is open to working full time, Monday - Friday within our operating hours of 8AM and 5PM. The Specialty Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for safely, accurately, efficiently, and consistently performing fulfillment of high-cost specialty medications which includes filling, outbound/inbound phone calls to schedule deliveries, handling and packaging of medication shipments, inventory management for medications and supplies, point of sale, and utilization of multiple systems to accomplish daily tasks. Previous specialty pharmacy experience or work within a health system specialty pharmacy preferred.DescriptionJOB DESCRIPTION:Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, procures, prepares, packages, and distributes and disposes medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients.

Maintains an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies; re-orders and stocks items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability.

Maintains competency and follows departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products.

Properly operates, troubleshoots, monitors, and cleans departmental automation and equipment.

Ensures Pharmacist product verification and facilitates the timely and appropriate distribution of medications to maintain product integrity.

Maintains accurate records and patient profiles including charging and crediting.

Responds timely to customers' needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately.

Understands and implements appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks ensuring timely and safe patient care.

Assists with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards to maintain the work area.

Conducts regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including the examination of product integrity and expiration.

Maintains competency and follows departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines to safely and accurately handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous prod.

Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.

Completes all required training and competency assessments in a timely fashion.

Attends educational in-services as appropriate.

Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel.

May serve as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance in pharmacy techniques and policies to ensure the delivery of efficient, quality service.

May perform other duties as assigned or requested .MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.

Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.

6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.

Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.

Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Medium-Heavy) 36-75 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35 lbs, 34-66% of the workday; (frequently); 10-20 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 75 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking; Occasional sitting; Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing); Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work. Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators may be required.
