Emergency Service Back-Up Custodian / Toll Collector - Pinellas Bayway BridgeOverviewDate Posted:9/25/2020Requisition Number:10928City:Saint PetersburgState:FLCategory:Toll OperationsPay Rate:11.13Description The Emergency Service Back-Up Custodian/Toll Collector will be trained for both positions and will be expected to cover as both a custodian and toll collector when needed. When working as Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the toll facility by performing routine maintenance and custodial duties. When working as Toll Collector, you will be responsible for accurately classifying vehicles, collecting tolls and providing change to motorists traveling through the toll lane. Essentially an outdoor work environment, subject to weather conditions. Crossing traffic lanes safely requires good mobility, vision and hearing to be alert to traffic conditions. Peak traffic conditions require a high volume of transactions to be processed under demanding conditions. This work impacts the traveling public and as such requires courtesy, efficiency, and professionalism at all times. The pay rate is $11.13 per hour.Candidates must have an availability of either 1st/2nd shifts, 1st/3rd shifts, or 2nd/3rd shifts, across 6 days of the week, including weekends, with 1 day off during the week. Must be able to travel between one of the following areas, you will be paid mileage for traveling:Pinellas Bayway Bridge, Skyway North, and Skyway SouthPolk Parkway Central, Polk Parkway East, and Polk Parkway WestThis is a Full-Time position. After a 90-day probationary period, employees will be eligible to enroll in Medical/Dental/Vision/401K benefits, and they will begin to accrue sick and vacation time based on hours worked.Job Responsibilities:

The employee must be available for 2 shifts across 6 days per week. Employee availability cannot be altered after hire for any reason. The one day off or not on-call will be scheduled Monday – Thursday and could be adjusted as needed.

Employee will be required to travel between one of the below areas:

Pinellas Bayway Bridge, Skyway North, and Skyway South

Polk Parkway Central, Polk Parkway East, and Polk Parkway West

Employee will be required to accept every shift offered regardless of lead time, provided the ESC has less than 40 hours in that particular week.

ESC employees may be required to travel outside of their normal work area and may be compensated for mileage if appropriate.

ESC employees will be considered FT with benefits.

The ESC employee will receive a premium rate of $1.00 over and above the employee current rate of pay which cannot exceed 25% of the TC current base rate.

The ESC will be managed to a strict policy of shift refusals

Employee cannot refuse more than (3) shifts in a rolling 30-day period or the employee will lose their position as an ESC and will forfeit the $1.00 per hour premium.

If an employee loses their position as an ESC, he/she will revert back to a floater position which is considered part time, benefits will be lost.

Employee will be guaranteed 32 hours pay per week regardless of hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours.

Employee has the right to decline shifts after 40 hours of work per week without consequence. However, cannot decline more than (3) shifts during a 30-day period.

Individuals in this program will be the first choice for overtime if required.

Employee must return phone calls for shifts requirements within one hour of the initial call to the employee.

ESCs are responsible for alerting Faneuil with any change to contact information immediately.

ESCs must keep an active phone available so they can be contacted at all times.

ESCs must be willing to take calls 24hrs per day, 7 days per week.

It will be the employee’s responsibility to keep in touch with the service center hourly if the employee is not in possession of a phone.

Minimum Requirements Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or GED.

Required to possess and maintain a current/valid Florida Driver’s License.

Successfully pass English, Math, and Cash Calculations tests.

A minimum of one year janitorial or maintenance experience.

Availability to work weekend hours based on business needs.

Ability to lift 50 pounds, while following proper safety and lifting procedures.

Cash handling experience on a computerized system.

Proficiently operate the Department’s toll collection equipment according to procedure.

Accurately classify vehicles and collect proper toll amounts from motorists traveling through a toll lane.

Accurately make change for various U.S. bill denominations in a timely manner, issue receipts to motorist and write insufficient fund slips.

Ability to determine vehicle classification by visual inspection.

Ability to handle money and make change.

Ability to determine correct tolls based on a numerical table provided.

Accurately complete operational reports reflecting toll lane activity. At end of the shift, balance cash and prepare accurate cash deposits on monies collected and tickets received.

Ability to perform routine maintenance duties.

Ability to safely walk across toll lanes while carrying work related items

Ability to safely walk across toll lanes and climb/descend stairs while carrying up to 50 pounds.

Ability to walk long distances.

Responsible for the cleanliness of the interior of the toll facility administrative building, tunnels and tunnel stairs, toll booths and remote ramp locations including sweeping, mopping and waxing of floors, emptying wastebaskets, dust and polish furniture, clean windows, clean and stock restroom facilities.

Responsible for keeping parking areas, lanes, and lawns free of trash.

Must collect and load trash in appropriate waste receptacles.

Must understand, operate push mobile, pressure cleaner and other equipment properly.

May be required to mow lawn, rake leaves, trim hedges and other yard work as directed.

Ability to handle high traffic volume quickly and efficiently.

Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.

Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.

Ability to express ideas and concepts clearly.

Interpersonal communication skills.

Final candidates for this position will need to successfully complete drug screening and a background investigation, which may include a criminal and credit check along with DMV.
