The FireEye Data Science team develops innovative, data-driven solutions used by thousands of FireEye customers each day. We work on the most challenging problems that FireEye faces, partnering with the best cybersecurity experts in the industry, to deliver impactful solutions.

The Data Science team is expanding again! We are a group of data scientists and data/ML engineers, each with a unique background. To do cutting edge work at the intersection of ML and cybersecurity, you have to have meaningful data. FireEye/Mandiant’s comprehensive view of the advanced threat landscape provides that unique access to data from investigations that matter, allowing the team the opportunity to have major impact within our industry. We train classifiers on petabytes of malware and develop models capturing the behavior profile of advanced threat actors that our organization has been tracking for over a decade.

Asa Data Science Managerat FireEye,you will be leading an experienced team on applied research projects. You will plan and manage the day-to-day technical work of data scientists who are building ML models and working with subject matter experts to improve them. The ability to scope projects, identify and resolve blockers or technical gaps are key skills you will need to demonstrate. Communication is important as you gather requirements and plan for the transition of models to our Data Science Engineering team.

What you will do:

  • Manage and provide technical leadership for a mission-focused and high performing team of data scientists.
  • Mentor data scientists to improve their technical and leadership skills.
  • Communicate with product owners to understand their requirements and ensure data science solutions meet their needs.
  • Collaborate with the Data Science Engineering team to ensure data needs can be planned for and transition of POC models to production goes smoothly.
  • Identify opportunities to improve our existing processes and workflow.
  • Share our team’s findings with the security and ML community through external publications, presentations and blogs.
  • Operate as a thought leader in the security data science community.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical field (M.S. and Ph.D are preferred).
  • Substantial experience applying machine learning algorithms in one or more of the following areas: deep learning, unsupervised feature learning, ensemble methods, NLP, and/or anomaly detection.
  • Experience with machine learning applications in cyber security.
  • 2+ years of experience leading a team of data scientists as either a supervisor or technical lead.
  • Ability to document and explain technical details clearly and concisely (peer-reviewed publications at top conferences preferred).
  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to speak effectively with diverse audiences, both technical and non-technical.
  • Demonstrated ability to build models on large volumes of data.
  • Proficient using Python, R, Scala or equivalent statistics and machine learning tools.
  • Ability to work as part of a remote team.

Additional Qualification:

  • Knowledge of AWS services.
  • Responsibility for machine learning models deployed in production environments.
  • Experience with implementing deep learning workflows using TensorFlow, PyTorch or Keras.
  • Experience with GPU-accelerated computing and hardware… for example, our NVIDIA DGX system.

Minimum Salary: $116,800. Final salary will be determined commensurately with cost of living, experience level, and/or any other legally permissible considerations.

Incentive Compensation: Eligibility for annual bonus subject to individual and company performance; eligibility for award of Restricted Stock Units subject to eligibility requirements, approval from FireEye’s Compensation Committee, and vesting terms
