Life with UsYour Project: Our team within Space Engineering is responsible for defining and managing the development and deployment of the Maxar Mission Control System including: real-time command and control, data processing and distribution, data archiving, subsystem analysis tools, ground resource scheduling, spacecraft navigation, remote sensing, and image meta-data systems. You are an ideal candidate if you have experience with spacecraft operations utilizing large, complex ground systems.

In this role, you will leverage your experience to quickly learn all aspects of the Maxar ground system from ordering, planning and tasking, raw telemetry data processing, core image processing, data management and discovery, web/cloud hosting and distribution, with an emphasis on remote sensing sciences (RSS) and spacecraft navigation (NAV). You will own Maxar initiative capability features, feature content and acceptance criteria, and provide technical leadership to other system engineers who, as product owners, provide technical leadership and support to scrum teams that keep mission maintenance and enhancement features continuously deploying to the operational baseline.

Your Career: We are very serious about professional development and continuing education at Maxar. We offer our team members with the opportunity to define their own career trajectory. Our group has amazing resources to support learning and development. You will work with your manager, or a mentor, to set goals and design a development plan to advance your career.

What you'll do day-to-day (with your colleagues):

  • Oversee the management of component/service-level requirements and traceability to design documentation, test cases, and operational training material
  • Work directly with feature owners, other systems engineers, program managers, developers, testers and customers to define features and generate optimal system designs
  • Create system-level functional flows with an ability to frame all requirements inside those flows
  • Create draft flows and lead design sessions with component subject matter experts to create preliminary designs
  • Lead development of as-built models and design documents for software components to ensure all documentation is current
  • Continually learn about our evolving complex ground system with a particular focus on the spacecraft navigation and remote sensing sciences teams
  • Make contributions to the enterprise vision, engineering processes, and overall architecture roadmap
  • Lead design sessions with internal clients from back-end processing to user interfaces, with an emphasis on the spacecraft navigation and remote sensing sciences teams
  • Manage internal client expectations to ensure realistic deliverables and then exceed those expectations
  • Lead the troubleshooting around Nav and RSS system anomalies
  • Coordinate team responses to large scale dynamic requests
  • Mentor other Systems Engineers and build rapport with other collaborators such as spacecraft engineers and component software developers

Minimum requirements for this position:

  • Minimum of 5 years of systems engineering and operations experience with a thorough understanding of the systems engineering domain
  • Experience in spacecraft or mission planning operations or related engineering
  • Applied knowledge of Agile development principles and best practices

These skills would be amazing:
  • Active U.S. Government security clearance
  • Experienced with Model-Based System Engineering practices, SysML, modeling system state transitions, data flows, etc., and working with Enterprise Architect or similar framework
  • General knowledge of spacecraft subsystems
  • Full knowledge of multiple development methodologies (Waterfall, Spiral, Scrum/Agile)
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or Certified Scrum Professional (CSP)
  • AWS experience
  • Service Oriented Architecture experience
  • Software development experience
  • Strong mentorship skills with a desire to professionally develop others
  • Ability to critique engineering designs and provide feedback
  • Experience and enthusiasm around leading innovation exercises such as Hack-A-Thons to determine optimal paths toward implementation of complex feature designs
  • Strong listening, written and oral communication skills
  • Strong sense of self-motivation and engagement around the details of the system design and operability
  • Impressive multi-tasking abilities
  • Ability to identify and resolve project issues independently
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
