Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment, and supplies. Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments. Assists with preparing, positioning, and draping patients. Passes instruments to physician during surgery. Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery. Receives and processes specimens from surgeon. Assists eye care providers in the care of patients and flow of clinical activities. Ensures proper care and usage of medical instruments.Job Duties:- Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Passes instruments to physician during surgery. Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery
- Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory.
- Performs documentation, patient education and enters charges. Assists with the flow of patient care.
- Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) or National Contact Lens Examiner Certification (NCLEC) if performing as a contact lens Technician
- BLS
- 2 years sponsored on the job ophthalmic training, or ophthalmic internship
- Willing to provide on-the-job training for ophthalmic technicians without surgical assisting experience.
