The Director of Catering & Conference Services will be responsible for leading the Steamboat Ski & Resort Catering & Conference team, including the development of conference packages, setting revenue goals, assigning catering contracts, and monitoring events to ensure they are executed as communicated to our guests and in alignment with the service standards the team has established. Five years of relevant experience in a senior catering/conference management position with applicable clerical experience required with an associate degree or higher in hotel/restaurant management preferred. Detailed job description, including responsibilities, work performed, tools or equipment used, etc.:

  • Hire and manage/supervise the Catering and Conference Services team, including performance reviews, coaching and leadership development. Take appropriate disciplinary actions when warranted
  • Provide leadership to the SSRC Catering & Conference Services team; successfully organizing events sold by the sales team and providing detailed BEO’s to the Banquet team and Restaurants so they can deliver the anticipated products and services to our clients at the highest level possible
  • Create a culture of professionalism, accountability and timeliness within the Catering & Conference Services team, working collaboratively with leadership from the Banquet team and other F&B departments to ensure we consistently deliver the highest quality products to our clients. Follow SSRC’s Service Excellence guidelines
  • Take a lead role in the development of conference packages including Room Rental, AV, Wedding Packages and F&B Menus necessary for the sales team to sell products and services
  • Approve all contracts that fall outside of the approved conference packages/parameters.
  • Solicit, negotiate and coordinate social/local catering and wedding opportunities
  • This position will assign contracted catering and conferences to the Catering & Conference Services Managers
  • Responsible for setting annual revenue goals and implementing plans to achieve target with the VP of Food & Beverage, Directors of Food & Beverage and the VP of Business Development
  • Monitor actual events as appropriate. Ensure that the event is executed by all the Resort Operations Teams as set forth in the Banquet Event Order and Conference Resume
  • Ensure understanding and compliance with all company policies and procedures as well as any regulatory requirements
  • The person in this position will provide superior service to our guests (internal and external) at all times and will respond in a courteous and efficient manner
  • Must be able to think and work as a team player and be prepared to accomplish goals working as a team.
  • This employee supports company philosophy, goals, and objectives. Must be able to handle multi-tasking and bring these tasks to completion quickly, accurately and in a timely manner
  • Be a consistent role model for company’s Service Excellence standards

Minimum skills, experience, education and ability required for this job:

  • Associate degree or higher in hotel/restaurant management, business or other appropriate discipline preferred
  • Five years of relevant experience in a senior catering or conference management position, clerical and administrative experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired
  • Broad base of knowledge and skills in food service and skills in food service-management, including menu planning, cooking/food preparation operations, dining room set-up and service, wine service, ordering, staffing, pricing and budgeting
  • Good financial planning and analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of Delphi for Windows, Word and other computer software
  • Ability to interact and maintain positive relationships with guests, co-workers and management consistent with SSRC’s Service Excellence standards and values
  • Valid driver’s license required and ability to meet company drivers’ standards and successful motor vehicle record check

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must communicate clearly in English—written and verbal
  • Sit at computer for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lead Resort site tours, involving walking and stairs

  • This is a salaried position and is not subject to overtime pay
  • Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check

The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.

Steamboat area base salary range: $75,000 - $100,000 per year
