POSITION: Activity Assistant

SUPERVISOR: Lifestyle Director

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

 Exempt Status

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lifestyle Assistant will assist the Lifestyle Director with the planning and implementation of the day to day social, educational, recreational, spiritual and therapeutic individual and group activities as listed on the activity calendar. Provide assistance to transport residents to activities in the building and on van outings.

Other: Willing to work shift assigned, weekends, and holidays. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision; problem solving, conflict management, budgeting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Lead large groups, small groups, and one-on-one activities throughout the day.

2. Effectively encourage and actively promote resident to participate in activities.

3. Willing to independently attend outside training related to activities.

4. Visit and encourage each resident each day.

5. Maintain accurate recordkeeping as assigned.

6. Present a professional demeanor that communicates to current and prospective residents the corporate philosophy of service, goodwill, and genuine interest in the residents’ unique needs.

7. Handle all residents concerns and complaints with finesse and in a caring, polite, and professional manner.

8. Communicate and channel to director and nurses all resident, personnel, and other matters and information that could be of concern in relationship to the health and mental state of resident.

9. Promote a thorough and continuous understanding among all employees the importance of activities to the quality of life for all residents.

10. Assist and cover for absent staff members as requested and when necessary.

11. Attendance to all required classes and staff meetings as announced.

12. Represent the community by giving tours and marketing as needed.

13. Ability to care the community’s animals as assigned.

14. Ability to care for the community’s planters and other similar areas as assigned.

15. Assist family members with their concerns (look for lost items, direct them to nurse or person for needed information).

16. To pick up after activities and put items away, including the moving of furniture.

17. Assist in keeping common areas neat and orderly and free of clutter.

18. Oversee that all residents have access to activities at all times.

19. Assist with directing volunteers when working with residents during activities.

20. Insure safe and comfortable accommodations for residents.

21. Make all guests feel welcome and help make their visit more enjoyable.

22. Assist in providing written instructions for caregivers to follow for activities on the Activity Calendar or days off.

23. Report all needed repairs to maintenance personnel.

24. Perform such other tasks as may be required from time-to-time.

UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS:

Exposure to blood/body fluid not likely.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Push, pull, or lift at least 50 pounds. Must be able to stand, walk, stoop and/or bend for periods of up to eight hours with breaks as provided for in the employee handbook. Frequent transporting of residents in

wheelchair.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a current state specific driver's license and CDL if applicable. Must possess a clean driving

record that will be approved by the Company’s insurance carrier and the Company’s standards. Annual driving record checks will be performed to ensure consistent and safe driving patterns are met.

Good communication skills, verbal and written; English language skills adequate to allow communication with residents and staff, and to understand written and verbal instructions. Compassion for elderly. Self-motivated.
