We are invested in the success of our teams and the individuals who represent Stanford Libraries.About the Position:The Curatorial Assistant, History of Science & Technology Collections, performs a wide range of complex and/or interrelated duties involving a high level of decision making in support of the Harold C. Hohbach Curator, History of Science & Technology Collections. Applies knowledge of overall system and works mostly independently with a high degree of initiative. May supervise employees and manage a unit or after hours operations by overseeing daily operations and updating and maintaining facilities and equipment of the Silicon Valley Archives.The primary focus of this work is generally the collections, archives, projects, exhibits and events associated with the Silicon Valley Archives (SVA). Working in close collaboration with the Hohbach Curator and the Hohbach Historian, the Curatorial Assistant will support planning and preparation for the program’s expansion and assist in coordinating a variety of activities around the opening of the SVA in Hohbach Hall, scheduled for early 2022.Why Stanford is for You:Imagine a world without search engines or social platforms. Core Duties:Provide reference and research assistance.

Participate in the development and implementation of policy concerning the organization, circulation and care of the collection

Interact with management and colleagues within and outside the functional area

Coordinate and perform a wide range of activities, including creation of basic metadata elements, throughout a variety of processing and reformatting workflows for archival materials

Maintain or assist in the development of bibliographies or organized research tools (e.g. databases or a suite of web pages,as well as written documents associated with research activities)

Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues

Assist curators performing complex acquisition projects

Manage daily operations of a unit (Silicon Valley Archives) including supervision of lower level staff

Assist Curator and Historian in communication efforts with the various communities around the SVA, including event organization and social media outreach.

Under direction of Historian and Curator, coordinate development of exhibitions and online content (web, “media walls”) for the new SVA space, using tools such as Spotlight, LibGuides, etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Education & Experience:Bachelor's degree plus three or more years of experience in an academic library, or a combination of education and relevant experience.Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Must have subject knowledge associated with undergraduate course work in business history and/or the history of high-technology. Research experience in these areas is desirable.

Ability to understand and communicate library policy

Experience with complex information systems

Experience with supervision of lower level staff - desirable

Demonstrated experience in using judgment and initiative to analyze and recommend new procedures

Physical Requirements:Ability to push a cart weighing up to 650 lbs. that requires an initial push force up to 70 lbs

Ability to work in an environment that is dusty and or moldy

Ability to lift books that are up to 10 pounds

Ability to kneel and reach

Must be able to stand for many hours
