California, San francisco bay area 00000 San francisco bay area USAFine GardenerPart Time (2 days (Thursday and Friday) /16 hours/week)
Friend + Sweet Landscape Design and Management:
Friend and Sweet is a queer- and woman-owned small business offering highly personalized garden design and management services for Bay Area home and business owners ranging from integrative designs to tailored organic yard maintenance.
Job Description:
Our small residential gardening company is looking for a part-time crew member for our maintenance team on Thursdays and Fridays. This isn't 'landscaping': it's detailed, attentive and skillful garden care, or what we call Fine Gardening. The ideal candidate is someone with a passion for gardening, love of plants, attention to detail, and ability to follow instructions and work independently as part of a team. Love of the outdoors and physical ability is a must as we do work outside in the elements.
Our gardens are maintained using ecological/organic methods and most work is done by hand. Experience with outdoor plant care, ability to recognize common weeds, and familiarity with common plants and pests of California landscapes is very desirable. We work in private residences and require professional behavior and presentation (clean work gear, friendly demeanor, and punctuality). You must have a reliable vehicle as we service gardens throughout the East Bay. Potential for a full-time position for the right candidate.
Benefits:
Wages are hourly $23-26 DOE plus mileage reimbursement. Gardeners are employees protected by Worker's Comp insurance. Full-time employees are eligible to participate in a SIMPLE IRA after one year. We have a sick time benefit beginning after 90 days. We are also willing to share costs for relevant classes and educational experiences. This is an opportunity to learn a lot about how to care for a wide variety of plants, to learn about the business of garden care, to prune artistically, to work with modern drip irrigation systems, and provide the service professionally. Potential for expanding into a full-time position. This can also become a professional career for the right person who excels at garden management and can also take on responsibility.
Contact/Application:
To apply, please provide a cover letter and resume. Describe why you are interested in this position and detail any relevant experiences. Starting pay is $23-26 DOE plus mileage reimbursement. We encourage applicants from all walks of life.
