OPERATIONS MANAGER - Job Description

About St Francis

St. Francis is an inclusive and historic Lutheran church in San Francisco with an active congregation, and supports many programs including a food bank (the only one in the Castro neighborhood), a senior program, a Sunday morning homeless outreach, and more. This role reports directly to the Pastor and supports a small team of support staff and volunteers. 

Job Description

We’re seeking an Operations Manager to help support and facilitate the ministries of St. Francis Lutheran Church, under the direction of the Pastor. The goal is to meet the needs of the congregation, program staff, and volunteers. St. Francis serves a broad community and the Manager will have responsibilities in managing a small team and individual contributions to the Church operations. We are looking for a reliable person and a team player that offers valuable insight, bridging the vision of the church and day-to-day operations.

Primary Responsibilities

Work to optimize church operations in partnership with church leadership and volunteers

Manage and coordinate weekly Sunday services – design and prepare Bulletins, coordinate Worship participants and supervise YouTube livestreams

Serve as primary point of contact for all vendors including handling contracts, issuing payments, and acting as the onsite coordinator during events

Oversee special projects by providing guidance and support to church leadership and volunteers

Maintain and update the Church website and email marketing with Constant Contact.

Facilities Management

Perform Property Management tasks including insurance policy management, tenant relations, property repair contractors, space rentals, and project bids.  Serve as a supervisor and work alongside Property Manager.

Oversee day-to-day building maintenance for church office and service location.

Manage office systems, including IT and office equipment, order supplies and other office equipment as needed.

Provide basic IT support for computer systems with secure hard drive and cloud backups.

Manage the booking of meeting rooms and rental availability.

Financial Operations

Manage congregational and financial records and files; generate reports as needed.

Manage budgeting process and support ministry leaders in monitoring expenditures and producing financial reports.

Handle all reimbursements, bookkeeping, invoices, purchase orders and receipts.

Assist congregation Council in managing the business operations of the church.

Perform light bookkeeping tasks. Work closely with the Treasurer to support bookkeeping and bill payments.

Human Resources

Manage staff payroll and benefits.

Serve as the Human Resources lead for the Church, including compliance with federal, state, local, and synod requirements related to employment.

Qualifications

7+ years of professional work experience with substantial time spent in positions with a focus on operations, facilities management, budgeting and event planning. Experience with nonprofits is a plus.

Strong sense of integrity and understanding of confidentiality.

Strong project management skills, organized, detail-oriented.

Good communication skills, both verbal and written.

Enjoys working in a highly collaborative and team-oriented structure

Experience with rental and property management.

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent preferred.

Ability to lift and/or move up to 25lbs with physical capability to perform job-related duties.

MS Office Suite, WordPress, Constant Contact, and Church Windows preferred.
