Working across the Community Health Equity and Promotion, Disease Prevention and Control, and the Applied Research Community Health Epidemiology and Surveillance branches in the Population Health Division at the San Francisco department of Public Health, the HCV Research Assistant will support the implementation of a pilot study of HCV among women of childbearing age with the objectives of (1) understanding the burden of disease among this population in San Francisco, and (2) identification of potential prevention opportunities. The HCV Research Assistant will also support processes to measure progress toward elimination of hepatitis C among people living with HIV in San Francisco.
This is a temporary, grant-funded, part time (32 hours per week), benefitted position. Employment is provided by Heluna Health.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop and implement epidemiologic studies and projects to assess the burden of hepatitis C in San Francisco;
Prepare reports of these studies in written and oral formats;
Serve as liaison for CDCU to other agencies on issues related to the investigation of hepatitis C infections;
Participate in weekly epidemiology and public health information system meetings;
Participate in relevant End Hep C SF meetings;
Conduct epidemiologic investigations of hepatitis infections through the development of study data collection instruments, discussion with local health departments and health care providers regarding prevention/control measures, and participation in interviewing subjects when needed
Track and investigate cases of perinatal hepatitis C
Conduct activities to identify perinatal hepatitis C and to decrease burden of perinatal hepatitis C in San Francisco
Design and prepare trainings and educational materials on perinatal Hepatitis C to present to a diverse range of public health officials, healthcare providers, patients, and community stake holders
Prepare reports of analyses of surveillance data and outbreak investigations for use within SFDPH and for distribution to health care providers, community stakeholders, the public, and the media
Conduct case follow up for people with HIV/HCV coinfection
Support ongoing analysis efforts including data matching of HIV and HCV registries
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Contribute to the preparation of written materials and presentation for possible use in San Francisco;
Keep informed of current local and national trends in public health;
Attends and represents CDCP at Branch, Division, and Department level meetings as well as community meetings;
Confers with supervisor and Branch leadership regarding assignments, problems, and progress.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
BA/BS in related field, or a combination of relevant experience and education
Minimum 3-years experience coordinating studies in public health or public health programs
Knowledge of hepatitis infection, transmission and prevention
Experience applying regulations and guidelines such as Good Clinical Practice Guidelines, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Protection of Human Research Subjects, IRB regulations for recruitment and consent of research subjects
Experience writing detailed grant reports and/or IRB submissions
Minimum 3-years experience of data management with large data sets
Experience supervising, managing, and training research staff
Experience with diverse communities, particularly communities of color, LGBTQ, and substance using communities. Understanding of patient population to create rapport, while also giving insight to what is realistic and appropriate for patient participation
Experience managing and analyzing data in Microsoft Access, Excel, Stata, or related programs

Ability to operate a computer and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite software including Microsoft Word and EXCEL
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong organizational and time management skills; high level of attention to detail

Sensitivity to ethnically, culturally, economically, and racially diverse populations
