Preschool Assistant Teacher (12 ECE's Required)

MdTL is a well-established independent Montessori school in San Rafael, serving children ages 2 through 6th grade for over 55 years. We are seeking a caring and dedicated Primary Assistant Teacher (3–6-year-olds). Please have at least 12 ECEs (or be in-progress with at least 6 completed), and be experienced with preschool-age children.

Start Date: ASAP

Full-Time Position (40 hours/week): 7:30am - 4:00pm M-F

Position Summary:

The Primary Assistant Teacher provides daily support to the classroom’s AMI-trained Head Teacher in a multi-aged (3-6 year olds) Montessori classroom. With a primary focus on the safety and well-being of the children, the Assistant Teacher observes the classroom and relates observations to the Head Teacher. The Assistant Teacher also supports the maintenance of the classroom environment through tasks such as cleaning daily and replenishing and replacing consumable materials (sponges, pencils, paper for academic materials, non-toxic polish, paper products, reusable cloths, etc).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist Head Teacher with basic classroom support

Share the responsibility for the safety and physical well-being of children at all times

Be responsible for daily classroom preparation as directed by the Head Teacher

Supervise the yard during play time

Cultivate and reinforce positive student behavior

Model appropriate behavior by demonstrating respect and care towards students and staff at all times

Requirements / Desirables:

12 ECE Units

Minimum 2 years teaching/childcare experience preferred

Montessori experience preferred

Negative TB test within 4 years

Available to start as soon as possible

Bilingual candidates are especially encouraged to apply fluent in Spanish and English preferred
