- Trains and supports in-person and remote students and faculty in complex applications, equipment and materials in support of digital imaging, including color management, and electronic art. May also provide support for animation and/or games. Consults with faculty and students to solve complex problems related to production of artistic work for photography, bookmaking, printmaking, animation, digital illustration, etc. Troubleshoots front-end production issues, including camera, photographic methods, material selection, layout, and project trajectory. Assists in digital workflow to achieve artistic objectives. Prepares online/printed documentation. Presents workshops. Maintains facility/subject area web presence.
- Installs and maintains discipline-specific applications, operating systems, and utilities software. Maintains network and security configurations. Maintains multiple servers with various functions. Manages IT aspects of facilities. Maintains/arranges for maintenance of equipment. Manages consumables. Monitors workflows for potential violations of privacy and copyright policies. Administers Arts equipment checkout system and ink tracking system. Maintains state-of-the-art printers and scanners in conjunction with color management software to provide predictable, consistent output that meets ICC standards. Establishes best practices for a variety of material used in digital output for different artistic mediums, i.e. digital kozo, fabrics, and inkjet mylar.
- Manages equipment, software and facilities budgets. Tracks usage costs.
- Researches, acquires, and manages relevant equipment and software. Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes faculty and student needs, documenting requirements. Manages hardware refresh cycle and software library. Creates project plans. Works with vendors to meet complex needs.
- Recruits, trains and supervises student volunteer monitors. Hires and supervises independent contractors to fulfill specialized tasks. May hire and supervise student employees.
- In support of exhibitions, prepares virtual and physical exhibition spaces with appropriate IT infrastructure, equipment and software. Consults with students about what type of material will be used for display. Once material is decided, creates a custom ICC profile and paper type. Assists with printing and size selection. Assists in proper storage and handling to ensure safe transfer to the gallery.
- Engages in special projects as requested.
- Bachelor's degree in the visual, electronic or digital arts and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Expert knowledge of the equipment, applications and materials used in the creation and output of digital image projects, in particular color management equipment and software.
- Extensive knowledge of the principles and concepts of art production and distribution.
- Extensive and detailed familiarity with the Macintosh operating system and server OS, including in a lab setting.
- Broad knowledge of various areas of IT.
- Demonstrated ability to install software and troubleshoot and repair moderately complex problems with computing devices, peripherals and software. Understanding of and experience troubleshooting client, server and peripherals-related issues and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
- Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.
- Demonstrated budgetary management skills.
- Interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff and students of varying skill levels, as well as with technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Ability to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
