For our restaurant in Santa Barbara, we are in search of a Chef/Kitchen Lead to oversee all aspects of our culinary operations. In this position, candidates will be able to run a high-end recently renovated kitchen, preparing unique authentic dishes following our original and creative recipes.

Because of this, the position also has the advantage of offering some training and counseling by chefs directly from Italy.

We are looking for an organized, creative, open-minded, and passionate leader that is proficient in all aspects of food preparation, menu executions, and crew management. The ideal candidate will have the ability to maintain a well-oiled (pun unintended) and efficient kitchen, particularly with regard to consistent food quality and keeping labor and food costs under control.

The candidate should have a proactive personality, be meticulous, and should be able to perform under pressure: the quality of our preparations is our priority, and we are proud to offer authentic, high-level Italian food. The candidate should have a deep passion for and knowledge of food and cooking. We are looking for a problem-solver and quick learner: somebody that works with common sense.

Responsibilities

Plan and direct food preparation and culinary activities

Modify menu items or create new ones that meet our quality standards

Estimate food requirements and food/labor costs

Select vendors and manage pantry and purchase orders

Supervise kitchen staff’s activities

Recruit, train and manage kitchen staff

Rectify arising problems or complaints

Give prepared plates the “final touch”

Perform some administrative duties

Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards

Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers

Skills

Proven working experience as a Kitchen Lead with a particular focus on healthy and modern cuisine: knowledge of vegan-friendly alternatives and bread baking is well appreciated.

Excellent record of kitchen management

Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently

Capable of delegating multiple tasks

Communication and leadership skills

Keep up with cooking trends and best practices

BS degree in Culinary science or related certificate

State required certifications (allergy, food handling, anti-choking)

Experience:

culinary: 1 year (Preferred)

executive chef: 2 years (Preferred)

management: 2 years (Preferred)

cooking: 5 years (Preferred)

sous chef: 1 year (Preferred)

Availability to work on some holidays, late evenings, weekends, and special events, is a must.

This is exclusively a full-time position.

Salary is commensurate with skills and experience: we will offer an end-year bonus associated with restaurant performances.
