About the Role

As a member of the Rides Fares team, you will be working on building Fares systems and products for Uber's Ridesharing business in an audit-proof and efficient manner. The system supports realtime fare calculation for thousands of products/rules/fees at billions of trips per year scale. And its reliability, scalability, maintainability is critical to the success of the business. You'll work with Product and other Engineering teams closely to scale Fares Platforms and enable innovations.

What You'll Do
  • Build next-gen scalable Fare Platform for all Uber's Rideshare business
  • Work with a variety of stakeholders - engineers, product managers, and engineering leads from other teams.
  • Lead and mentor other engineers on the team.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience coding using general purpose programming language (eg. C/C, Java, Python, Go, C#, or Javascript)

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least five (5) years of software engineering experience
  • A willingness and curiosity to learn both the systems and domain in which you will be solving problem statements
  • Knowledge of large dataset storage systems like NoSQL, HDFS (+Hive) and data distribution systems like Kafka
  • A great teammate and owner - willing to take on ownership of the systems, and think about operations, maintenance and reliability of his/her systems
  • Proven experience of shipping high-quality product features on schedule. If no industry experience then link to github which can showcase your work.

The Marketplace Fares Team powers global fares for all of Uber - that's all riders, drivers, eaters, new initiatives and technical consumers. Tens of billions of dollars in gross bookings flow through the systems and experiences within our responsibility. Our scope and critical work span the entire stack - from platform fare calculation for riders and drivers, to data science prediction of trustworthy upfront prices, to compelling mobile fare experiences for our customers.
