This is a position in an interdisciplinary agile Med Informatics group developing novel applications/solutions for a large healthcare organization. A Sr staff software engineer is expected to develop applications, tools & scripts to facilitate the business activity of informatics physicians,scientists,& other team members,& help implement/deploy solutions to the internal/external clients of the Med Informatics team. A Sr staff software engineer is responsible for ambiguous,complex,wide-scope projects that impact multiple groups &/or other projects,demonstrating strong engineering judgment & deep understanding business requirement.Essential Functions:Leads team to improve engineering efficiency & quality.- Leads implementation of significant new tools w/in organization.- Makes good decisions on adopting software development standards & best practices.- Sets a model for the team in following them.- Leverage is expected at the project &/or department level.- Stays current w/cutting edge software development technologies.- Identifies appropriate technologies & leads team to adopt new technologies.- Creates complex multi-factor, multi-yr plans or analyzes complex situations using multiple problem solving techniques or long causal connections.- Works effectively w/incomplete, ambiguous or conflicting requirements.- Anticipates & prepares for opportunities or problems that are not obvious to others.- Creates opportunities or minimizes a potential problem w/a new program, initiative, or unique event.- Requires minimal Mgmt.- Drives to achieve software engineering excellence.- Maintains traceability throughout product development.- Consistently exercises good judgment in prioritizing tasks to most effectively utilize resources.- Makes effective & timely decisions, even w/incomplete information.- Performs discriminating information analysis, relies on strong engineering judgment, & recognizes project level factors & business requirements.- Effectively negotiates technical tradeoffs/alternatives w/program & product Mgmt.- Works effectively w/business groups & customers.- Acts as a technical & professional resource for functional area that effectively leverages knowledge & experience to contribute to the success of multiple projects.- Reviews projects & provides constructive feedback to project teams.- Acts as an effective leader through providing directions, setting & maintaining a common vision across multiple teams, acquiring resources to secure project success.- Develops talents for the organization by aligning people's strengths to business goals.- Takes personal responsibility for the success of a project.- Holds people accountable, directly addressing performance issues & enforces consequences for lack of compliance w/standards & best practices.- Effectively communicates w/team members,upper Mgmt,program Mgmt,& product Mgmt.- Consistently supports compliance & the Principles of Responsibility (KP's Code of Conduct) by maintaining the privacy & confidentiality of information,protecting the assets of the organization,acting w/ethics & integrity,reporting non-compliance, & adhering to applicable fed,state & local laws & regulations, accreditation & licenser requirements (if applicable),& KP's policies & procedures.- In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating srv behaviors & principles defined by the KP Srv Quality Credo,the KP Mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives.- This job description is not all encompassing.

Basic Qualifications:Experience- Minimum eight (8) years of related experience with a bachelor's degree, or minimum six (6) years with a master's degree.Education- B.S. in computer science, informatics, physics, mathematics, engineering or in directly related fields.License, Certification, Registration- N/A. Additional Requirements:- A strong understanding of multiple technical areas and significant experience in various project phases related to these areas.- Recognized as a technical leader in functional area and is able to quickly leverage technical skills in new areas.- Widely respected technical ability with a mastery of system level issues.- Understands the necessity for and impact of all aspects of product (e.g., documentation, process artifacts, plans).- Proficient in multiple programming languages.- Able to choose advanced programming techniques properly according to the problems/constraints.- Extensive knowledge of grammar, syntax, compilers, and programming languages.- Able to design complex database schema independently.- Able to perform optimization of queries/stored procedures and database administration.- Solid skills and experienced in applying TDD principles to software development projects.- Able to break large software development projects to small TDD iterations with limited help.- Able to refactor legacy code into TDD independently.- Knowledge and experience in designing deployment process and able to lead support staff in deployment and maintenance.- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
