Computer Science Teacher (K-8) (Yorba Linda)

The Computer Science Teacher is responsible for the student engagement and campus leadership around the computer science curriculum program at Heritage Oak Private Education. This person must be professionally prepared to teach computer science to our students and support the computer science curriculum. Additionally, the teacher agrees to uphold the high expectations of student engagement, success around 21st Century Learning outcomes and high academic standards of Heritage Oak Private Education.

Duties & Responsibilities:

-Planning, supervising and implementing the Computer Science curriculum in accordance with Heritage Oak standards, policies, and procedures.

-Proficient use of the various technology tools supporting the Heritage Oak Computer Science curriculum, around critical and computational thinking along with digital citizenship and technology literacy goals on our student outcomes.

-Collaborate with the grade level teachers to plan and integrate the Core Knowledge curriculum, when possible and appropriate, with computer science projects.

-Monitor, document, and assess student progress. Maintain close communication with the directors and parents regarding student issues, and conferencing as deemed necessary.

-Submit weekly lesson plans and updates to the Enrichment Director on status around the computer science programs.

-Represent Heritage Oak as the campus point person/ambassador of technology integration and computer science at their school site.

-Participation in all school events and other special events include; Back-to-School Night, Open House, Welcome Back Picnic, in-house training programs and Staff Meetings, etc.

-Establish positive guidance techniques rather than negative methods to correct and influence student behavior.

-Assist in other duties as assigned by the Enrichment Director, including morning arrival and departure procedures.

-Be familiar with and execute a grade K-8th grade curriculum that provides for coding skills, incorporates robotics and integrates key concepts of ethics and digital citizenship as outline via the ISTE standards.

-Be able to create and execute lesson plans on coding, robotics and digital citizenship via the apple iPad platform

-Display energy and enthusiasm, maintaining evident interest in the job.

-Contribute and share ideas freely with other staff members.

Skills/Knowledge/Education:

Prior to being hired, a teacher shall have a BA or BS degree from an accredited or approved college or university. A transcript and/or copy of the degree from the approved university/college must verify the coursework, or a current and valid teaching credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Prior work experience in a classroom setting strongly preferred.

Technical Skills/Experience

-Understanding of Computer Literacy and Digital Citizenship skills

-Knowledge of CSTA and other academic technology standards a plus

-Proficiency in utilizing the Apple iPad platform to execute lessons

-Able to troubleshoot to solve minor computer and connectivity issues

-Proficient in MS Suite of products

-Prior programming/coding experience a plus

-Experience using and teaching with educational software

-Experience with a variety of technology in the classroom such as computers (PC and Mac), digital projectors, document cameras, Interactive Whiteboards, 3D Printers, and student devices

Physical Requirements:

Position requires a high level of energy with the ability to move from a sitting to standing position frequently. Must be able to frequently bend, stoop, and perform extensive walking. Be able to move quickly from one place to another to ensure safety. Can lift up to 50 pounds and is able to work indoors and outdoors. Must be able to push and maneuver a computer cart loaded with computers and other essential materials weighing between 250-400 lbs. Must be able to supervise students by sight and sound.
