Position description
The UCLA Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. We seek applicants in any cardiovascular research area that contributes to the vibrant clinical and basic science communities at UCLA. The recruitment is for a position in the Division of Molecular Medicine within the Department of Anesthesiology. The Division includes basic and translational science-focused investigators with research strengths in cardiovascular biology, neuroscience, epigenomics, ion channel biology, and imaging. Faculty in the Division are members of a broader cardiovascular community on campus that spans multiple departments in the David Geffen School of Medicine, the Samueli School of Engineering, the Fielding School of Public Health, and the College of Life Sciences. Opportunities abound for membership in interdepartmental research communities, including the Cardiovascular Research Theme, the Metabolism Research Theme, the Goodwin-Luskin Microbiome Center, the Broad Stem Cell Research Center as well as the Institute for Quantitative and Computational Biology. The close proximity of research labs to the Ronald Reagan Medical Center enables clinical investigations and translational research. The broader cardiovascular community on campus hosts a diverse and exceptional array of research areas including systems genetics (including the roles of sex differences and the microbiome), heart failure, fibrosis, congenital/developmental cardiology, neurocardiology, arrhythmia, and atherosclerosis. UCLA is the #1 ranked public institution in the USA, endowed with state-of-the-art infrastructure to support basic, biomedical, translational, and clinical research. Applicants will have access to state-of-the-art cardiovascular physiology core facilities, including echocardiography, blood pressure telemetry, surgical suites, as well as advanced computational expertise for analysis of large datasets. Applicants will be able to recruit outstanding graduate students through the Graduate Program in Biosciences. The Department has a multi-pronged, team-based, and personalized mentorship program to facilitate the professional growth of faculty at all career stages. Faculty in the Department are active mentors in a wide range of settings from the clinic to the bench. We seek candidates who value, engage in, and promote inclusive excellence in all areas of academic scholarship (research, teaching, mentorship, citizenship, and JEDI).Candidates should have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and demonstrated scholarly achievement. Applications should include a CV and a short (1-2 pages) cover letter that includes a vision statement of how the applicant’s research synergizes with the research communities at UCLA and how it will impact the field. Applicants should also provide statements of: (1) current research including future directions, (2) teaching and mentoring, (3) contributions to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Applicants will also be asked to submit names and contact information for three references. For full consideration, applications should be submitted by October 15, 2023. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted in November and kindly asked to submit full letters of recommendation within two weeks from the date of contact. Interviews will be conducted at the UCLA campus in early January in a symposium-style format that celebrates cardiovascular research. Competitive salary, space, and start-up package will be provided.Cultural North Star: The shared values of the DGSOM are expressed in the Cultural North Star, which was developed by members of our community and affirms our unswerving commitment to doing what’s right, making things better, and being kind. To implement this process, UCLA requires all applicants for Academic Senate faculty positions to complete, sign, and upload the form entitled “Authorization to Release Information” into RECRUIT as part of their application. If the applicant does not include the signed authorization to release information with the application materials, the application will be considered incomplete. As with any incomplete application, the application will not receive further consideration.
