As such, the candidate selected should actively promote the District’s STAR culture. The Legal Technician is responsible for administrative support and specialized legal support functions that require the frequent use of discretion, initiative, and independent judgment. Responsibilities include regular contact with governmental officials, the Governing Board Members, representatives of business and community organizations, the public, and all levels of District personnel. The current vacancy is located in the District’s Fresno office. The eligible list established as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and may also be used to fill future vacancies.

The ideal candidates will possess knowledge of: legal office terminology, phraseology, procedures, and the format for legal documents; principles and practices used in the preparation, maintenance and progression of case files/legal files; legal reference materials; techniques for legal calendaring; office administrative, secretarial practices and procedures; correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary; business arithmetic, including percentages and decimals; AND skill in: preparing routine legal documents and briefs with minimal attorney supervision using Microsoft Word, including preparation of Tables of Contents and Tables of Authorities; compliance with formatting and filing requirements of rules of court and local rules; preparing clear, concise and comprehensive records, reports and other written material; preparation of spreadsheets for internal, organizational purposes using Microsoft Excel; using initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines; operating standard office equipment and typing accurately at a rate of 50 net words per minute from printed copy.

Qualifications: Requires education equivalent to a high school diploma AND completion of two years of college OR post high school technical program with an emphasis in legal office practices and business law AND at least one year of experience in a law office setting involving the preparation and filing of a variety of legal documents in a litigation setting; OR completion of an accredited paralegal training program.

Other Requirements: Must possess a valid California Driver License and meet the automobile insurability requirements of the District. Must be able to attend work on a daily basis as scheduled.
