Boeing Phantom Works is currently seeking a Mid-Level Software Engineer to join the Phantom Works team located in El Segundo, CA. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.

We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Phantom Works focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

Position responsibilities are ideally, with experience in satellite systems to work in a rapid development environment. This engineer will participate in all phases of the system development life cycle, including payload development, requirements definition, analysis and decomposition, software and hardware system design, algorithm design, risk management, integration, test, and operations. The successful candidate will be helping lead system level requirements, design, development, verification, and operations activities with an emphasis in software design, test and implementation.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Ability to work as a part of a team in a fast-paced environment to develop next-Gen prototype payloads for space.
  • Design and develop software architecture for mission data, including command and telemetry software data both internal to the unit/payload and to external users.
  • Develop, document and maintain complex architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems.
  • Develops software verification plans, test procedures and test environments
  • Carries out test procedures and documents test results to ensure software system requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Conduct risk reduction activities and issue resolution.
  • Some experience in SPI, I2C, UART communication protocols is preferred.
  • Some experience in VHDL programming and test bed design is preferred.

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements:

This position requires an active Top-Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or Engineering.
  • 1 yr+ experience in the software design process (space payloads preferred).
  • 1 yr+ with the ability to navigate the various design review processes and present software design to internal and external customers.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience in SPI, I2C, UART and communication protocols.
  • Experience in VHDL programming.
  • Experience with space payload
  • Experience with test bed design.
  • Experience establishing timing process and system synchronization.
  • Experience in design and verification of internal unit software and software external to a space payload.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledgeable of the software needs for prototype payloads for space.

Typical Education/Experience:
  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master +3 years' related work experience)
  • In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
