Distinguishing Characteristics: The Cyber Security Engineer is responsible for identifying threats, prioritizing response actions, and developing effective countermeasures through the design, implementation and management of a secure Cyber Security framework based on National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) best practices. This position will be the primary liaison to the TSA for reporting any Cyber Security incidents.

Essential Functions: The following functions and all other functions not included in this job description are to be performed in the best interests and for the greater good of TAA.
  • Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recover TAA’s data and software systems based on NIST Cyber Security framework.
  • Understand Public, Private and Hybrid Cloud; how, when, and why you would apply Cloud Security best practices within different business cases.
  • Create, maintain, govern, educate, and communicate security polices and standards.
  • Audit regularly and report on compliance of TAA cyber security policies and standards.
  • Analysis of threat and emerging threats based on risk analysis using Information Risk Assessment Methodology (IRAM).
  • Protect the TAA users and infrastructure against attacks such as Randomware, Spoofing, Scams, and Phishing.
  • Collaborate with IT division peers on critical cyber security issues to recommend and implement cost effective security solutions
  • Keep abreast of emerging security technologies. Research, identify, and evaluate cyber security trends and practices that are of relevance to the airport environment.
  • Perform deep dive analysis of potentially malicious artifacts. Analyze large structured and unstructured data sets to identify trends and anomalies indicative of malicious activities.
  • Contribute to the design/build, test, implementation, and maintenance of security tools and platforms. Monitor systems activities and fine tune system parameters and configuration to optimize performance and ensure security of systems.
  • Receive and analyze alerts from various sources and determine possible causes of such alerts, correlate incident data to identify specific issues and make recommendations that enable expeditious remediation.
  • Perform a deep-dive incident analysis by correlating data from various sources and determine if a critical system or data set has been impacted, advise on remediation.
  • Monitor and test system performance and provides solutions for any problems identified while maintaining, tuning, and patching systems for optimum operation and security.
  • Research, recommend and plan for the expansion, replacement, or upgrade of security-based network/server equipment and related software. Identify gaps or inefficiencies and resolve.
  • Collaborate with vendors, contractors, management, and other technical experts planning for modernization of current technology systems or the design/installation of new systems. Serves as the subject matter expert on specific security systems.
  • Develop and maintain Disaster Recovery planning and Business Continuity plans.
  • Attend technical or complete online training to keep current on changing technology.
  • Install and configure new IT security equipment including IPS/IDS, firewalls, web/email filtering, and other types of devices.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Cyber Security leaders of other airports to broaden awareness of technology developments and trends in security systems that may be relevant to TAA.
  • Keep current and adhere to TSA’s cyber security policies, guidelines and mandates for Airports
  • Be responsive to airport emergencies and situations that may involve loss of human life or property; support public safety and operational response to emergencies; utilize Incident Management System (ICS)/National Incident Management System (NIMS) protocols and procedures; coordinate and/or participate in after-action emergency de-briefing with appropriate departments and stakeholders.

Position Requirements: A Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related field and at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in Information Technology Security, with a minimum of 3 years as a Cyber Security Professional. Experience in a public agency or an airport environment is preferred. TAA will consider any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to demonstrate aptitude for the position.
