Definition: Under general supervision from the Assistant IT Director (Enterprise Architecture), designs, builds and maintains data warehouse solutions and creates custom reports and dashboards representing information extracted from both in-house developed as well as third party software applications.

This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt.

Tasks

:1. Leads requirements gathering and analysis. Reviews requirements with stakeholders and senior team members to ensure clarity and understanding.2. Develops ETL solutions and supporting data strategies leveraging acquired subject matter expertise to identify/inform opportunities/risks 3. Develops complex reports and dashboards in accordance with design specifications, coding standards, policies and procedures. Incorporates feedback received from team members during reviews in current and future report and dashboard building efforts.4. Creates complex queries to join data from multiple tables, merge data from different systems and acquire a deep understanding of what the data means, in order to build and automate meaningful and actionable reporting.5. Contributes to business improvement projects that enhance automation, quality, and/or efficiency.6. Unit tests developed dashboards and reports and documents tests as required by the departmental and/or project development guidelines.7. Provides timely and accurate updates of individual progress during the project development phase, communicating all variations to commitments as they are known.8. Assists in the development and execution of system, integration and user acceptance test cases and scripts as requested by the project management teams.9. Participates in the documentation and support of business intelligence and reporting systems, adhering to the department and organizational production change management policies and procedures. Provides 24x7 support of critical applications as assigned and directed by the Assistant IT Director.10. Participates in the design and architecture of developed software reporting systems and dashboards.11. Performs other job related tasks as assigned by the Assistant IT Director (Enterprise Architecture) or IT Director/CIO.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

:
  • Knowledge of general principals of report creation, data analysis and business analytics programming and programming languages.
  • Proficient in ETL and enterprise data warehouse technical development
  • Proficient in SQL and T-SQL
  • Proficient in SQL Server Reporting Services
  • Proficient in SQL Server Analysis Services
  • Proficient in SQL Service Integration Services
  • Knowledge of SQL development and implementation methodologies.
  • Knowledge of testing and documentation methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Agile Software Development Lifecycle Methodologies (SDLC).
  • Skill finding solutions through technical support channels and peers.
  • Skill learning new analysis and reporting tools, techniques and methodologies quickly with minimum supervision.
  • Skill with verbal and written communication.
  • Skill with synthesizing large amounts of data from multiple sources and building visualizations to tell a story.
  • Ability to impart specific expertise and knowledge to peers and staff through individual mentoring and team efforts.
  • Ability to quickly change priorities and respond to short-term tasks as needed to keep computer network operational.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with all levels of the department and Community.
  • Ability to learn quickly and be willing to tackle tasks requiring advanced problem solving skills.
  • Ability to learn new analysis and reporting tools, techniques and methodologies quickly with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to lift and carry 45 lbs.

Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university in Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or a closely related discipline.

Experience: 7 years demonstrated experience with recent reporting, dashboard and business intelligence techniques and tools required.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in the following technologies required:
  • ETL and enterprise data warehouse technical design and development
  • SQL (including autonomously writing freehand SQL statements that are moderate to complex, using subqueries, inner and outer joins, pivots, and common table expressions)
  • SQL Server Reporting Services
  • SQL Server Analysis Services
  • SQL Server Integration Services
  • Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau, Qlik, Power BI, etc.
  • Agile Software Development Lifecycle Methodologies
    • Demonstrated successful experience in the following technologies is preferred:
    • Familiarity with A.I. and machine learning.

    Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and experience that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered.

    Special Requirements: May be required to work beyond normal work hours including nights, weekends and holidays. Prior to hire as an employee, applicants will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. Will be required to pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check. Employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
