The Overhead Traction Electrification Maintainer performs skilled work in connection with the inspection, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, operation, alteration and repair of the TriMet Electrification Overhead Wire System. Effectively use and operate the tools, computerized diagnostic test equipment and field equipment required for the repair and maintenance of Overhead Wire System Equipment. All work performed will be reported electronically by the technician including all aspects of work performed, travel time and any special conditions encountered and repaired.

1. Inspect, Troubleshoot, adjust, repair, maintain, and replace electrification overhead wire system.

2. Maintain maintenance logs and record work performed as required by TriMet rules and procedures.

3. Conduct or assist in traction electrification system tests and repairs as necessary.

4. Operate various maintenance equipment and tools as necessary, including hi-rail vehicles.

5. Follow written Standard Operating Procedures and maintenance instructions, including blueprints, schematics, drawings and written specifications.

6. Support rail system, track, signals, and substation maintenance in accordance with established procedures and/or as directed by qualified personnel.

7. Assists in re-railing operations and other emergency situations.

8. Assists in spare parts and special tools and maintenance equipment inventory, set up and control for the traction electrification system.Position Requirements

A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Three years experience in traction electrification construction/maintenance.

Five years experience in electrical line construction/maintenance.

Applicant must pass a qualifying examination related to selection criteria.

Possession of, or the ability to acquire, a valid Oregon Driver's License, Class "A" (CDL) with air brake endorsement or State of Washington equivalent.

Upon verification of prior experience, applicant must pass with a score of at least 70% on a qualifying written examination related to the selection criteria listed below.Selection Criteria

1. Knowledge of materials, equipment, and hardware related to traction electrification systems, National Electric Safety Code and other applicable codes and standards.

2. Knowledge of electrical maintenance and repair practices and procedures.

3. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret electrical distribution plans and related drawings and specifications.

4. Knowledge of and ability to use test equipment to diagnose and correct problems for traction electrification systems.

5. Ability to communicate and document effectively, maintain test records and assist in developing operating procedures.

6. Ability to work with circuits rated up to 1,000-volts.

7. Ability to operate the Districts radio and telephone communication system in accordance with established regulations and procedures.

8. Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA Lockout/Tagout requirements.

9. Demonstrated ability to maintain a satisfactory level of dependability and reliability for technician work performance, both individually and as a member of a team of technicians, and attendance.

10. Ability to understand and comply with District's safety rules, operating procedures, rules and regulations.

11. Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening.

12. Physical examination with drug screen required.Type of Position/Grade/FLSA:

Union, Non-Exempt, Full-Time, Minimum starting wage: $36.60 per hour. Wage will be in accordance with the current Working and Wage Agreement.Selection Process– Candidates will be selected based at a minimum on the result of:
