Southeast Alaska Surgery Center is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care for patients with spine and joint pain in a setting that is professional, compassionate, and caring. The facility operates exclusively for the purpose of providing care to patients not requiring hospitalization and in which the expected duration of services is typically less than 2 hours per patient.

Position: Part Time - Staff Nurse

Pay Range: DOE

Job Duties/Assignment

Provides safe, quality patient care in the Peri-Operative area (Pre-op, Recovery or OR). Accountable for the assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge.

Essential Functions

Assesses patient status on admission to pre-op area, the operating room and/or the

post-op area.

Reviews patient chart to review allergies, health history, and verify all operative permit are completed.

Documents all procedures, medications, and assessments thoroughly.

Safely carries out physician’s orders correctly and promptly documenting all activities.

Communicates appropriate information regarding patient conditions to those who require the information including physician(s), OR nurse, and other staff.

Displays an understanding of each patient’s cognitive, physical, and emotional status before initiating discharge education.

Take part in pre-op and post-op phone calls and communicate any problems to the appropriate person.

Maintains competencies in conscious sedation administration and monitoring of sedated patient. Including airway protection, assessment, and support of sedated patients.

Expertise in safety principles, sepsis, sterile technique, and universal precautions.

Assess, anticipates, and implements appropriate care throughout the surgical process.

Necessary Skills/Qualities:

Graduate of a Professional School of Nursing, current State license as a Registered Nurse,

current certification in basic CPR for Healthcare Professionals, must be able to work independently, be able adapt to fast pace environment, evidence of continuing education, good command of the English language, both verbal and written, meets the needs of the nursing service as demanded by the schedule, particularly when overtime hours and time changes become necessary, ability to work well with physicians, employees, patients, and others. Current ACLS certification, preferred but not necessary.
