Position Summary:

The primary functions of this position are to load, unload and move freight in a safe and efficient manner. Position may also interact with customers and may perform minor maintenance on equipment. We will be looking to grow this individual into one of our CDL class A Drivers when the time comes!

Key Responsibilities: (this is list is not all inclusive, nor may all duties be completed by all within this job title)

Load and unload vehicles such as trucks, vans, flat beds trucks, box trucks or tractor-trailers

Mark incoming freight appropriately

Move freight around yard and warehouse using a forklift or other moving equipment

Complete freight paperwork accurately and timely

Ensure that freight is loaded, unloaded, palletized and mark appropriately

Consistently adhere to all of Span/MSTS Safety and Fit for Duty policies

Assist customers as necessary

Consistently follow all safety procedures and attend safety meetings

Secondary Responsibilities:

Minor vehicle/equipment inspection, maintenance and cleaning

Assist with warehouse clean up

Attend training and meetings as assigned

Other duties as assigned

Communication/Customer Contact:

Communication skills are necessary as the position may interact with other employees, customers, vendors, contractors and/or suppliers. Contacts are typically face-to-face but may be via telephone. Communication is rarely about confidential information.

Supervision/Management:

Position is not supervisory in nature.

Essential Skills, Experience and Education:

High school education or GED

At least three months of experience is required; most training is obtained on the job

Or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position

Ability to operate a fork lift safety and accurately

Ability to drive a variety of vehicles

Solid communication skills via radio and/or telephone

Ability to process all freight related accurately and efficiently

Must exercise good judgment, decision making and focus

Ability to follow all Span/MSTS safety policy and procedures at all times

Ability to safely and accurately block and brace loads on a flatbed truck

Strong knowledge of lifting techniques

Strong knowledge of warehouse equipment usage, maintenance and light repair

Certificates/Licenses:

Forklift Certification

Hazardous Materials Certification

Medical care preferred

Physical and Mental Demands:

Must be able to push or pull heavy loads (up to 200 pounds)

Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds

Must be able to operate all equipment in a warehouse which may include grasping, climbing, bending, handling, reaching, hand dexterity, feeling/touching and repetitive motions of the hands and feet

Ability to walk or stand for long periods of time

Strong body coordination and equilibrium

Strong core strength

Work Environment:

Work is typically performed in a general warehouse environment buy may also be conducted outside in the elements. Exposure to exhaust fumes is likely. Overtime may be mandatory when needed. Conditions may also include exposure to environmental noise.
