Position Title: Elder Wellness Advocate
Department: Health & Social Services
Reports to: Health & Social Services Director
Position Summary: We are seeking a part-time Elder Wellness Advocate who helps to ensure that the comfort, personal care, and other various care needs of Elders in the community are met. The Elder Wellness Advocate is responsible for providing compassionate support, and attentive one-on-one care to enhance the quality of life, allowing Elders who require a helping hand to enjoy independent living. This position provides assistance with daily activities such as: guidance with dressing, bathing, meal preparation, medication reminders, running errands, laundry & light house-keeping, as well as engaging in activities like playing games, reading, and visiting. This position also provides transportation to appointments as needed. This is a part-time, 25 hour evening/weekend position.
Qualifications:
Education: Must be at least 18 years of age and have a High School Diploma or GED. Has preferably completed one job-related course on providing personal care services.
Experience: 1 year up to 2 years of personal care related work experience is required.
The advocate must have knowledge on how to safely move, operate, and store ambulatory- assistive devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, and the equipment often required for less ambulatory individuals. Must be able to safely lift up to 35 lbs.
Must have valid Alaska Driver’s License and be insurable by the Tribe’s auto insurance. Must have First Aid & American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider or be willing to obtain them within 30 days of hire.
New hires for this position are subject to pre-hire alcohol/drug testing. This position is also subject to random alcohol/drug testing. A federal and state background check is required for this position. Background checks will be conducted every two years as a condition of employment.
Hiring Preference: As allowed in P.L. 93-638, preference for employment will be given to Alaska Native and American Indian Peoples. CVTC also has a local hiring preference.
