HVDC technology in particular is increasingly becoming a major player in this energy paradigm shift to enable large-scale renewable energy generation, such as offshore wind or large interconnectors.As an Electrical Engineer – HVDC, you will closely work with regional and global HVDC and power transmission experts within Jacobs to support and/or lead ongoing HVDC related projects as well as business development and proposal support with a variety of clients including renewable developers, transmission owner/developers as well as utilities.The successful candidate shall demonstrate related experience and technical knowledge in the field of electrical high-voltage engineering, with emphasis on HVDC, through past experience with consulting engineering firms, developers and/or direct exposure to OEMs. Prior knowledge of electrical design/studies, functional/technical specifications, and/or FAT/SAT commissioning related to HVDC systems is preferred. Knowledge of the offshore wind market will also be seen favorably.Responsibilities include:Support and/or lead HVDC related projects, at various stages of development including:
Assist clients in HVDC/HVAC technology selection;
Conceptual, pre-FEED and FEED level design studies and/or drawings;
Converter station functional/technical specifications;
Liaise with converter station and HVDC cable OEMs on behalf of project owner/developers to fulfil OE tasks;
FAT/SAT witness testing and other supports on behalf of client
Work seamlessly with other project disciplines such as cable engineering, environmental/permitting, GIS, geotechnical & geophysics, civil, etc.
Contribute to Jacobs global and North American HVDC business development, bid preparation as well as initiatives to capture new HVDC pipeline.
Contribute to industry thought leadership and represent Jacobs at reputable international conferences and committee meetings such as IEEE and CIGRE.
Please note that although this role is expected to primarily focus on HVDC, other conventional electrical and high-voltage transmission engineering tasks may also be assigned from time to time.Typical salary range for this position is $89,100 to $116,850 and is commensurate with experience relative to the position.Your health. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, from a recognized institution (Master’s or PhD degree in related fields such as high-voltage or power systems is an asset)
Minimum 7 years of power/HV experience with a minimum of 3 years of relevant HVDC experience
Knowledge of applicable industry standards such as IEC, IEEE and CIGRE
Exceptional problem-solving and analytical capabilities with a focus achieving results
Team player with great interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
Experience with high-voltage OEMs and specifications
Ability and willingness to travel in North America
Ideally, You’ll Also Have:
Direct experience with HVDC applications in interconnectors or offshore wind
Professional Engineer (PE or PEng) License, or ability to obtain within 1 years
Active ongoing involvement in HVDC-delated working groups and standards committees
