PT Kennel Attendant Needed : 30 hours a week Friday to Tuesday, 8 am - 4 pm $10 hour

AWSJC is currently seeking a dedicated Animal lover who is dependable, hardworking and friendly to join our AWSJC team!

Previous Animal Care is preferred, but not required. On the job training is provided.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Adheres to the cleaning procedures as detailed in the Standard Operating Procedures and protocols for animal care, kennel maintenance, sanitation, parasite and disease control, and other animal practices within

the policies and guidelines of the Animal Welfare Society. Wear comfortable clothing, tennis shoes or non-slip shoes are recommended.

2. Responsible for maintaining the animal housing areas and the shelter in a Clean and Sanitary condition.

This includes thorough morning cleaning and disinfecting, and ongoing cleaning and maintenance throughout

the day.

3. Animal runs and cages are to be checked before the employees take their lunch break and before the end

of their shift to be sure that the animal is clean and cared for before the staff leaves for the day. Fresh water must always be available and easily accessible to each animal.

4. Staff must always maintain a humane and caring attitude towards the animals in their care.

5. Caretakers must be knowledgeable about proper handling and restraint of animals. Teasing, Neglect, or any instances of animal cruelty will not be tolerated and will result in immediate dismissal.

6. Responsible for careful observation of animals in runs and cages throughout the day, to see that the animals are safe, healthy, and comfortable. Each animal should have access to clean and dry bedding.

7. Responsible for promptly notifying the Shelter Manager if any animal shows signs of stress, injury, or illness.

8. Responsible for assisting citizens/guests in the kennel and cattery (Cat Rooms) looking for a lost pet or seeking to adopt an animal. Our goal is to increase the adoption rate and do all we can to ensure adopted animals are well-matched with their new owners. Attendants are expected to be courteous to the public and give them accurate information about the animals in our care.

9. Must demonstrate a low level of absenteeism and tardiness as a condition of continued employment.

We expect that our employees share our sense of commitment to the animals. Be on time, do not call out, dress appropriately to work, work well with your co-workers and be polite to public guests.

10. Performs other duties as assigned. There is never a time at an animal shelter when all the work is done, and the animals have been given enough attention. IE: Dog walking, or cat attention.

11. Always represents the Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County in a professional manner: in appearance, attitude and conduct with co-workers and the public.

Safety Awareness:

This position will require on various days working with cleaning chemicals, walking, standing, bending, lifting over 40 pounds occasionally, and working with animals that may harm you at their will.
