Key job responsibilities
  • Define technical requirements for Contextual Modelling Services
  • Own end to end design Model building systems. Identify opportunities for unification of model builders.
  • Define metrics to measure success and catch failures. Insist on high standards to deliver quality results.
  • Lead team members to investigate design, prototype and evaluate technical feasibility.
  • Work in Agile/Kanban/Scrum environment to deliver high quality software against aggressive schedules.
  • Provide technical excellence and mentor team members.
  • Collaborate effectively with peer teams and key partner services to deliver robust engineering product.
  • Successfully guide the team to deliver results for Alexa.

A day in the life
  • Work closely with senior engineers and speech scientists.
  • Design and develop distributed large scale solutions for contextual modelling and storage.
  • Deal with systems serving hundreds of thousands of TPS.
About the teamOur team owns Contextual Model Building Platform for Automated Speech Recognition which power the Alexa Runtime to be more personal, conversational and natural.

  • Santa Clara, CA
  • Toronto, Canada
  • Virtual (remote)

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years of professional software development experience
  • 3+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language
  • 2+ years of experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead OR leading an engineering team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience developing cloud software services for scalability, performance and reliability.
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Excellence in technical communication with peers and non-technical cohorts.
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
