Virginia Urology, a large specialty physician practice that has served central Virginia for over 75 years, is seeking an experienced IT professional whose primary expertise is supporting and integrating electronic health record (EHR) systems and organizational applications for the health care industry. Applications Specialist will focus on ensuring the accuracy, accessibility, and functionality of the systems being utilized by the practice. This individual will be based at our Stony Point office at 9101 Stony Point Drive, Richmond, Virginia. Occasional travel to our other offices is required.

Responsibilities include:
  • Resolving application problems with the Practice Management/EHR system.
  • Providing ongoing support and maintenance for all clinical and operational applications, to include knowledgebase updates and interface management.
  • Answering help desk calls, adding help desk tickets, working assigned incidents, and communicating effectively to senior technicians and management if escalation is required.
  • Working independently and collaboratively to identify opportunities for efficiencies in business processes and support the organization's information systems strategy.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving software and, in some cases corresponding hardware technical issues or integrations with software.
  • Developing application support modules including forms development, applying technical solutions to workflows, etc.
  • Assisting with the setup and maintenance of workstations and peripheral devices.
  • Providing user training.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

This position requires the following:
  • Prior work experience in a healthcare setting using a certified EHR, preferably athenaPractice v20.1 (formerly GE Centricity CPS).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in systems integration using HL7, FHIR, and preferably Qvera (QIE) or other interface engine.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently as well as with a team.
  • Intermediate understanding of the differences between locally installed applications and Citrix hosted applications.
  • Intermediate level of understanding of the role of active directory and group policy.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, prioritization, and time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 beyond basic Word and Excel. Candidates with cloud-based solutions experience preferred (i.e. One Drive for Business, Sharepoint, Power BI, Powerapps and/or Power Automate).
  • Familiarity with structure of SQL, Oracle, or other database schema and querying of data.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or the equivalent; some college and/or IS/IT certification preferred.
The Applications Specialist will work Monday through Friday, eight hours per day with a 30-minute lunch break. The successful candidate will have the option of choosing between established work schedules with start times of 7:30 a.m., 8:00 a.m. or 8:30 a.m. Provided the incumbent is qualified to handle issues dealing with remote connectivity, he or she may be able to be added to the after-hours on-call rotation schedule.
