Full-time

We are an architecture and build firm in Asheville, seeking to hire a lead carpenter.

We focus on high-end custom homes, as well as thoughtfully crafted spec houses. We are much more focused on being in the top tier of quality than anything else. Our company also strives to build energy efficient, environmentally friendly homes, and any knowledge of building science would be helpful.

The correct candidate has:

- at least three years experience as a lead carpenter on new construction, preferably in green building.

- at least five years as a journeyman or general carpenter prior to their three years lead carpenter experience

- a truck or van with a lumber rack for transporting materials to and from site.

- Most tools are provided, but a bare minimum of tool belt, fully outfitted for new construction, a drill set, and a circular saw are required.

DO NOT APPLY TO THIS JOB IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A VEHICLE AND CURRENT LICENSE

Job Responsibilities:

- Problem solving and critical thinking. The project manager and owner will dictate tasks, but it will also be up to you to identify tasks that need to be done that we may miss, since you will be on site more.

- Gentle Leadership: We will not tolerate a leader with an attitude. It is important to our company that all of our crew get along with each other, and we don’t want to have our journeyman carpenters having issues with their lead.

- Teamwork: There will be times when you have to put your heads together with the architects, project mangers, subcontractors, and even clients to come up with elegant solutions for problems on site.

- Craftsmanship: We pride ourselves in high quality workmanship. From clean finish solutions, to clean functional frame solutions, and everything in between, we require our work to look good and be functional for many years to come.

- Cleanliness: We try very hard to keep our job sites clean and organized. It is understood that a site may be a mess during the heat of the battle (as in during the middle of the work day), but the site must be tidied up at the end of each day, and thoroughly cleaned on each Friday, or if you will be leaving a particular site for a few days. On days when clients are arriving, a very thorough clean will be required.

- Organization: Our work trailer is well labeled, and everything has a place. It is imperative for our lead carpenter to maintain this level of organization. We do not want carpenters wasting time looking for tools, materials, or fasteners because they aren’t where they are supposed to be.

- Adaptability: There are many times on job sites where new issues present themselves, and require a modulation of the strategy. It’s important to be able to adapt to these conditions, and move forward effectively.
