Job Summary:

Superintendents must have the ability to run jobs, small and large, read blueprints, order materials, motivate crews, conduct general meetings and safety meetings, train new employees, and follow/uphold company safety rules. Duties include consulting with PM, subcontractors, and consultants on design issues or change orders. Superintendents are responsible for conducting weekly safety meetings and the implementation of company safety policies.

Superintendents are responsible for management of the job site. Management responsibilities include keeping abreast of crew and employee challenges and successes, ensuring job site efficiency while mandating safety, and upholding employee morale. Superintendents are also responsible for enforcing scheduled hours of work for their crew.

The Superintendent position is a blended role. This position is a “bags on” field leadership position. The Superintendent must be a Journeyman Carpenter; therefore, following the required skills and abilities of a Journeyman Carpenter and the below requirements of the leadership role. Please refer to the attached Journeyman Carpenter Job Description for detailed expectations of that role which are also expectations of this role.

Essential Job Requirements:

Job Qualifications:

Education: Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent, College degree preferred

Experience: Minimum 8 years full time carpentry experience required and minimum 5+ years in high end custom residential carpentry preferred

Experience: 5+ years residential construction field management and leadership experience preferred

Safe Lifting: Use proper lifting techniques when moving lumber and other materials. Always ask for assistance when moving heavy items

PPE: Always wear personal protective equipment such as ear protection, safety glasses, and gloves on the job

A similar combination of both education and experience will be considered

Journeyman Carpentry Skills: Per attached Journeyman Carpenter Job Description

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

Construction Document Interpretation: Able to read blueprints and cross reference schedules and details to find all needed information

Construction Document Development: Draw and develop details and sketches

Scheduling Skills: Write and follow a construction schedule and track and follow labor hours budgets.

Mission Statement:

Accountable for ensuring all completed work on site including other trades is completed within BRB’s safety, quality, and productivity standards while providing guidance, scope delineation and supervision to subcontractors and BRB employees. Develop team members and subcontractor partnerships through leading daily operations and construction techniques. Lead “Bags On” by example, therefore, supervising and driving all aspects of the construction process on site and ensuring BRB standards are upheld.

Objectives

Safety: Ensure safety and cleanliness of job site and team member objectives

o Hold weekly safety meetings at each job site. Topics should focus on current or upcoming operation procedures, SDS’s on any construction products used, examples of any recent near misses, accidents or incidents

o Report near misses and maintain injury free jobsite

o Ensure job site always has a fully stocked first aid kit and a fire extinguisher

o Train to and ensure safe operating procedures

o Understand Grab & Go Kit and what to do in case of job site injury

Quality: Ensure Quality Control and Documentation

o Complete, RFI’s, submittals, shop drawings and detail sketches as needed to proactively clarify scope, ensure proper details, and keep job on schedule

o Complete accurate daily job reports and when required sub inspection reports to ensure project documentation, maintain quality, safety, and productivity

o Proactively initiate change event documentation for any variation from plans, specifications, discrepancies, or changes in scope.

o Understand and enforce execution of the quoted work scope of each sub.

Productivity

o Create, maintain, and enforce a master critical path and rolling 4-week schedule and maintain critical path substantial completion date.

o Manage productivity to achieving site labor hours results at or under budget

o Order all needed materials and schedule all subcontractors according to the master schedule and 4-week schedule

Leadership: Lead a field crew of varying size (job and crew) and develop crew members and subcontractors to perform to BRB Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Leadership standards as required in the respective job descriptions and for your project.

o Teach, train, and develop individuals, teams, and subcontractors.

o Teach, train, and develop Journeyman carpenters to become Foremen

o Be the first on the job site in the morning and the last to leave
